There's nothing archaic about an election system that was specifically designed to retain Power by the individual states so they would never be overrun by a heavily populous state. It's a design feature not a bug. They put that in there specifically to prevent California and New York from ruling by mobocracy. They had no idea of course which states would need to be held in check but as it happens power needs to be kept out of the hands of New York and California. If New York and California don't like it then they can of course start their own country.

OK, we can certainly go with every voter's vote given equal weight and you can then try to make up an excuse why the actual voters hit the Hillary button more often (hugely) than those who hit the Trump button. I know, you can go the Trump route and claim that over 3 million brown people ran across the border on election day to illegally vote (oh, and to drop off drugs and kidnapped girls) and ran back only to all run back in again later.
