To get into the mood of "thankfulness" (and a bit of awe) for tomorrow's American Thanksgiving, I tuned up the u-tube clip of Susan Boyle in her original "Britain's Got Talent 2009" audition (over 80 million times viewed now). It still gives me chills.

Anyone else setting the mood for this this year?

Mostly trying to recover from illness, and wondering if I have a cold or will soon. Otherwise, trying to do laundry and otherwise prep for a trip to the parents tomorrow.

That clip is inspirational, to be sure. The look on Simon Cowell's face after she started singing was priceless: utter shock. And Piers Morgan immediately creamed his jeans with total infatuation.

I am thankful this holiday finds my family and friends in good health and spirits. We are gainfully employed or in school, and nobody is left wanting for food and shelter.

Happy Thanksgiving. :rose:

Done with Turkey, onto Crown Roast....

Thanksgiving? I was in the mood for that a few weeks ago. Now I've got my sights on Yuletide. Try to keep up, SR! There are trees and santas at the malls, peppermint and gingerbread mochas at the Starbucks. Thanksgiving is so last week! ;)

I'm unhappily aware of that. My wife is in the kitchen now--baking for tomorrow--and cursing at the radio, which is running Christmas music.

I'm actually more disturbed by the big focus on "Black Friday" which is turning into "Black Thursday Night." Instead of commercials about specials on turkeys and pies and "a happy thanksgiving from our family to yours" messages, all I see are commercials about how some mega-store is going to be opening their doors at 10pm Thursday or midnight or 6am Friday for an "early" black friday.

It's like Thanksgiving only exists so that Black Thursday/Friday can happen. Like there's some sort of holiday shopping race and this is the starting line; you eat the turkey and pie so you'll have the fuel to stay up all night waiting in line for the doors to open, and to sustain you as you dash about with a shopping cart.

It used to be about the Thanksgiving dinner, man!http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww254/HomeFromTheH/hippie.gif Gathering with family, eat, drink, nap, argue politics, watch a football game...and no thinking about holiday shopping till the next morning.

My house is right now embraced in the scent of pumpkin pies cooking in the oven. I'll be taking several pies over to my parents' house tomorrow. Black Friday isn't even a thought to me, I won't be shopping - I am taking my son and nephew to get their hair cut. That's about all I'll be concerned with.

I love that clip.

I wasn't into it until this morning. Got bogged down in a plot bunny that was inspired by true events, and I didn't feel thankful until I got to the happy ending. Then I was good to go and even listened to religious music. <gasp!>

But I'm a stickler about refusing to even talk about Christmas until after Thanksgiving is over.

Serenissima Syd, you're writing? Another thing for me to be thankful for.

Best wishes to all.

This is turning out to be one of the best Thanksgiving Weekends in a long time. This is going to sound wrong in a way, but I think the key to that is that I have set my expectations lower.
