Has anyone here joined American singles before? I have and I am no longer a member. But just for shits and giggles I check my profile to see who or what has tried to contact me.

My main rant has to do with where some of these people are from and how they try to contact me. First of all, the website lets you know who has looked at your profile, who has IMed you, who has you on their hot list etc. The majority of the women that have tried to contact me are from Nigeria or some other African third world country. There are others from Thailand, China, and once in a while I'll get someone from Europe. I see when these women IM me they haven't even viewed my profile beforehand. I mean it is common sense to browse someone elses profile before you IM them. It raises a red flag.

I've come to the conclusion that all these women from these far away countries want is money and to scam Americans. They post pictures of modelesque women on the website and try to fish for stupid Americans to take the bait. Coming from some of those countries listed, America is very rich compared to them. I've read many stories about Russian and Nigerian con artitst.

Just for the hell of it, I've fucked with two people. One woman from Nigeria, and one from Russia. I know its a bullshit scam so I played along and exchanged pictures, talked to them and told them about myself. Just random shit to fill the letter. I read their replies in broken piss poor english and kept corresponding until they asked for money. Its funny how they stop corresponding when you tell them you can't give them funds.

I may sound a bit cruel from what I done to those scammers. If they are going to waste my time, I'm going to waste theirs. :rant over:

NO, NO, NO.

You're supposed to say you sent them the funds. And then say 'oops, I got the address wrong. Nigeria? I could've sworn you said Niger!'. String them along. Build up their hopes and then smash them to pieces. Now go back and do it right.

Here's some expert advice. Be sure to scroll down for the photos.

I don't have any experience with American Singles, but does the site have an email addy where you can report abuse? Most personals sites frown upon spammers, bots, and fakes using them as a vehicle to increase traffic on their own sites, so they'll remove the "bad" profiles if you report them. Of course, that's probably not as much fun as fucking with them, as long as you don't blow any money in the process!

My experience with personals sites is that the men tend to outnumber the women fairly significantly, which means that if you want to draw attention to yourself, your profile has to stand out. Unfortunately, once you weed out the fakes, the male-female ratio gets even worse. I think you're right on target with your assessment of the "modelesque" pic/profiles: if she looks too good to be true, she probably is. Since lots of men are "visual," these fake profiles use eye candy to lure them to another site and take their money.

I had an American Singles ad a long time ago, but got pissed off as soon as I signed up and learned "free" meant you couldn't actually talk to anyone unless you paid. I've gotten plenty of 419 emails regardless though.

On the topic of personals, this article is great for a good laugh. The other articles on the right side of the page are as well.
