How about rates of compliance/non-compliance? What is the substance of the laws on the books? It would seem to me that the sheer number of gun laws are less significant as to their effect than what those laws say (especially the consequences of breaking them) and how well they are enforced.

According to this study both suicide and homicide occur at a higher rate in states with lax gun control laws. Likewise states with stricter gun control policies see a far lower incidence of both things.

The study analyzes correlation, not causality. I never claimed otherwise and it's not intellectually dishonest to conduct this research. You just let yourself get so angry that you end up saying really stupid things sometimes. Research into causality would have to be done by a large volume of other studies... And since the NRA bought legislation that bans federal research on gun violence it's very difficult to accomplish such a thing across many or all states.

I saw nothing about crimes commited with a firearm-that didn't result in a casuality???? Couldn't that be corelated to the laws as well? I mean you get a harsher conviction with than without right; so it does make a difference? Or how about the fact that some areas, like New York for example have stricter laws so most people go outside of the state to surrounding states to buy weapons? Especially those out commiting crimes with the weapons? AND here's the kicker boys and girls: Based on my recolection of the last 20 or so years of news, The majority of school shootings were commited with *stolen* guns and/or by *minors* not old enough to purchase a gun by law!

I believe in my second amendment rights as an American. I also think that law enforcement and military should have an advantage strategically in armament. If technology advances, why can't our state and federal armories as well?

I think two things are going to reduce the number of crimes and deaths comitted with firearms : Education and Better Parenting. Mental Health reform couldn't hurt either.

Nothing says that one can not control a situation because they do not have a gun. Your mind and body are the ultimate weapon. I saw a seven year old girl disarm a grown man and control him with his own gun on a NatGeo documentary. It can be done.
