Seriously, they called this place "Xanadu"? And then "American Dream"? If I were an investor, I would've pulled out the second I heard either of those names. They're incredibly stupid.

Here's my favorite quote from the Wikipedia article:

Cancelled:

Digital Playground: Circuit City planned a new concept store with the feel of a consumer electronics trade show. Visitors would roam the expansive floor to explore, experience, and purchase next-generation consumer electronics and technology in a completely new, hands-on way. The concept was canceled mostly due to the bankruptcy of Circuit City.

Anyone live nearby? I hear most people think the traffic that'll result from this monstrosity will be unreal...

The "power of entertainment" didn't keep Circuit City, Virgin Megastore, and Muvico Threatres from shitting the bed on their projects for the mall.

Circuit City failed because Best Buy was a better business model.

Here's the Best Buy business model as it sits today:

*Customer walks into Best Buy
*Customer checks out a digital camera; sales associate answers questions
*Customer decides he/she really likes the camera
*Customer walks out of Best Buy and purchases the camera on Amazon.

That entire electronics retail store segment is FUBAR. Best Buy will suffer the same fate.

not really. i don't go there anymore, but it's not because of amazon. it's because they pissed me off by clearing out my rewards points right before i was due my stupid, little five dollar coupon. cheap bastards.

I noticed it was on state owned land and owned by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. Perhaps it was another government run and operated urban renewal project. They have a pretty spotty record for working out in the long run.

A monument to the long time corruption in this state.
The thing is a fucking eyesore.

well sure, the American dream sucks for people like you. that's because you are not willing to do the work. when you fail, due to your own ignorance, you blame everyone else and scream Racism

sad sad sad

It's next to the stadium that the Giants and Jets share. If it ever opens, the teams don't want them to be operational on Sundays because it will cause additional traffic problems.

It's butt ass ugly but otherwise so what? Mall of America is butt ass ugly, too but people still flock to it.

It is ugly and that is one of the negatives often sited. It's had a problem getting built for years and now it's two very powerful neighbors are saying they don't want it operational on Sundays during football season to the point that it will cause additional traffic. I don't know shit about bidnezz but I don't think I'd want to invest in a protect that can't make money one day each week.

Depending on what they think Sunday revenue might be it might be worth giving up 16 or so a year to avoid hassles. It's not unheard of but it's not a popular business model. I don't know. I have no idea what something like that will bring in in that part of the country.

Bergen County has blue laws in effect, so they may not be able to operate on any given sunday.

I just looked it up and damned if they don't have things generally shut down on Sunday. If that holds then the football thing is moot.

Hell of a blue law that says you can't ski indoors on a Sunday.

blue laws can be a bitch. the eagles couldn't play games on sunday for like the first ten years of their existence because of stupid blue laws.

and that's my random trivia fact for the day.

I didn't know that.
Most of the blue laws here only deal with alcohol and they're pretty lax.

There is skiing in Bergen County on sunday, but not on the kind of snow you're thinking about.

In 1677, the General Assembly of East New Jersey banned the "singing of vain songs or tunes" on Sabbath.

One of the last remaining Sunday closing laws in the United States that covers selling electronics, clothing and furniture is found in Bergen County, New Jersey. Bergen County, part of the New York metropolitan area, has one the largest concentrations of enclosed retail shopping malls of any county in the nation; four major malls lie within the county. Paramus in Bergen County, where three of the four major malls are located, has even more restrictive blue laws than the county itself, banning all type of work on Sundays except in grocery stores, restaurants, and other entertainment venues. The Bergen County legislature recently wanted to abolish them, but residents who live near Garden State Plaza objected.
