awesome movie....i love kevin spacey's acting and the plastic bag in the wind :p

Best movie I've seen in recent times. It's never left me. Pieces of it come back to haunt me on a regular basis.

American Beauty

Fight Club

Office Space

Three very different movies that all deal with a very similar theme. I will never waste away at a shit job again!

The plastic Bag In the Wind

Metal-Minx,

The link I proved details how the writer of American Beauty actually had the bag scene occur to him in real life and incorporated it into the movie. You should check it out.

My favorite line is when Lester says to his wife, who is in the drive through with her lover, The King of Realestate, "You never get to tell me what to do, ever, again!"

I really enjoyed this movie too. Some also mentioned FightClub - another pearler!

I have noticed thought that a lot of my friends with KIDS didnt particularly like the movie, where my friends who dont have KIDS did like the movie...
I guess they were relating to it in a more personal way - in the sense that they dont like the idea of a grown man coming on to his daughters friend... not that he actually does anyway in the end...

I have kids and I loved it. Mine are little, granted, however, I hope to know and understand that they will be sexual beings before the age of consent.

Notice the similarities between American Beauty and Fight Club:

1) Both feature white collar joes who are shown the light by anti-heroes who work as caterers!

2) Both blackmail their bosses and get huge severance packages!

3) Both characters find freedom through nihilism.

4) Both films end with a gunshot to the head!

Very interesting . . .

Hi Oilpainter!
One of our regular guest speakers is the man who is the storyboard artist for American Beauty ( and Mission Impossible, 101 Dalmations, etc)
He gave a talk to our students showing how he discussed the script with Sam Mendez, and drew out the screen views of the Gymnasium scene. Then he told us how the scene builders put the set together, the lighting and camera crews set up to reproduce his drawing.
So what you see on your screen originated on a painting made in a tiny village in the hills above Worcester UK. - and it is almost an exact reproduction!
His name is Tony Chance - check the credits.
While I'm name dropping in the Movie technician's world, my Nephew made the monsters for Blade 2.
Cheers

Thats cool info Darowyn. Its always cool to learn how a movie comes together.
