Could anyone give me some information with regard to ages:

Scenario:

Final Year student studying Marine Biology.

How does the school system work according to ages with regard to highschool/seniorhigh/college/university, etc. In what situation do woman join sororities(spelling).

I want to make sure I get it right this time!

In the US, typically kids begin high school at 14, and graduate when they are 18 or 17. High school is 4 years in length.

College or university is 4 or 5 years, depending on the degree, how many classes taken, and how serious a student is. People can start at anytime, however if they choose to go right after high school, they are 18 (sometimes 17) and they graduate at 22 or 23.

Hope that helps

I would add that those ages are +/- a year. That's the age most turn sometimes during the school year.

It depends on jurisdiction, but a child must be Six before the end of Oct or Nov of the year they begin first grade. Freshman in High School is Grade Nine and Senior is Grade 12.

A typical school year in the US runs from the End of Aug to the Beginning of June, So most students are 6+Grade level by the middle of the school year.

Most College/University students don't take more than a year off after High School, although there are a significant number who spend an enlistment in the military for the educational benefits -- Three to Five years -- before starting College.

As far as age limitations for Stories on Lit, Highschool seniors and any college student would generally qualify as legal.
