How is it that the divide between Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives, has grown to the point that it seems as if it can never again be bridged?
Buried deep in this article, the columnist offers this:
(Warning- the article is anti-Trump- don't let that diminish the following quote)
"In the old days, a liberal and a conservative (a “dove” and a “hawk,” say) got their data from one of three nightly news programs, a local paper, and a handful of national magazines, and were thus starting with the same basic facts (even if those facts were questionable, limited, or erroneous).
Now each of us constructs a custom informational universe, wittingly (we choose to go to the sources that uphold our existing beliefs and thus flatter us) or unwittingly (our app algorithms do the driving for us). The data we get this way, pre-imprinted with spin and mythos, are intensely one-dimensional."
Over the weekend, I watched both MSNBC and Fox News. Both, when covering political news, would leave out important facts about Trump and Obama that didn't fit their agenda. If one or the other channel was all you watched, you would never be able to make a truly informed decision.
Will the Republicans and Democrats ever be able to reach across the aisle again, work together for the common good? I highly doubt it.
