I'm not sure when they instituted the system. Called the sheriffs
dept. for the specifics and told them I' d put it out on the web.

We're a lot of people, and we care more than sex, many of us have children. When something like this happens, why not use our resourses, at least to get the info out. I lived in the Dallas area when Amber was abducted... I was the mother of 2 youn(ger) children at that time. It was a terrible thing to live through - the endless search fo Amber...

My cousin, who once lived in Ft. Worth, had a daughter named Tawny. Tawny was not much older than my 12 year old daughter when she disappeared one night from her mother's home, about 10 - 15 years before Amber's abduction. Tawny may have snuck out to meet friends, but never returned. Her body was found a few days later, in a sandy area beside the highway. To this day, the person that sexually assaulted her and killed her remains free. I only wish there had been an Amber Alert at that time. I don't know if it would have helped Tawny, but it would have been comforting. The police treated her like a runaway - did nothing at all to try and find her.

I'll keep my eye out on this side of the lake for the windstar...

This past week, Iowa issued two amber alerts.

Both were "solved" in a few hours fortunately.

In Omaha, we get the alerts posted directly on our television, and the road signs on the interstate will reflect the information as well.

Here's hoping this one resolves as successfully as the Iowa ones (first alert was a toddler taken by his parents from the grandparents who had custody); the second was the mother taking her child from the father who had custody.

Amber alerts have appeared to be very effective in the Nebraska and Iowa areas.

As Arden said here in Tx it has been in placed for quite a few years and has worked wonders. There are some that they still have not found the bodies, like one Opal Jennings, the guy that kidnapped and killed her told them he did it. But will not tell where she is, he is a little mental and they used that in his case but it was determined that he knew what he was doing and could tell where she was. That has been about 5 yrs ago, I think.

If I am not mistaken this past year the Amber Alert went national and was passed by the senate to make sure that it is not abused but that it gets the word out there quickly. Have seen the signs on the highway telling about it and also anytime was is issued there is an alarm that goes off, similar but different to that of tornado/emergency warning and the tv and radio, everyone announces it.

We don't really have anything like an alert here in Eng. Though when a child does go missing there is a nation wide hunt and all tv and papers are full of it which is good.
It is horrific that these sick bastards think they have a right to take and abuse children, i hate them so much, because of them so many parents have become more restrictive with their children when it should be the other way round and i am sick of hearing about reform projects. I am a just and inderstanding person but where these evil sickos are concerned there is only one way i think they should be dealt with.

My thoughts are with the family and may god bring the child home.
