My bro gave me an old laptop of his so I can run Win10 and have updated browsers. It's up and running, but there are bugs to be worked out. I have Carbonite, and also use Google Chrome. Seems nothing transferred over from Chrome, but the old IE bookmarks transferred over.
Now here's the weird thing! I checked to see if any passwords transferred over. They didn't. The passwords from the sites I'd logged into were on that computer. But...
Down below those, it listed my Amazon account. In red letters, it warned me of a data breach and told me to change my password immediately!
Now I have had an ongoing problem with Amazon Prime Video, which I have never used, nor will I. Someone was accessing my account with a Sony TV and Comcast Internet. I never had a Sony TV nor Comcast Internet. I do have a cheap little TV that is not connected to anything or plugged in.
The culprit was watching John Clancy movies and buying Fandor. Fandor is some sort of file/video sharing device.
I called Amazon repeatedly. They had me change my password I don't know how many times. I put a 5 digit code on my Prime Video account so no one could log in without it. I took my payment method off my account. I was then told to put it back on. That didn't matter. Their internal security staff was going to check into it. Amazon even claimed that they deleted my Prime Video account. Lie, Amazon. It's still there.
Then? Another Fandor purchase. This time they had me change my Amazon account so no one can log into it without having a code that comes straight to my cell phone or for backup, my landline.
The only people in my house are my gardener, who rarely uses the computer unless he wants to put music on. It's busy season for him so he's usually not even here, and the only devices he has are my old Ipad, so old that it won't do much, and his Iphone. His GF comes over but only comes in to use the bathroom or put something in the fridge while she's here. She doesn't live here. He lives in the tiny house behind me. And my BF. I know he hasn't used the computer. Daughter rarely comes here any more and she never uses the computer.
The odd thing is, every time I've contacted Amazon, they quickly refunded my money and asked no questions. Makes me think it's an inside job.
Now to the data breach! The most recent thing I saw online was back in March which is about the time frame where the trouble began for me, but it was mainly in the UK and mainly Amazon Marketplace.
Anyone know anything about this? Thanks!
