Some things amaze us and others are disappointing.

Amazing.

Walking home from pre-school and realising I could read for myself.

Breathing in the air in Canada the morning after emigrating from England.

The view over NY from top of World Trade center towers, even more so as a memory post 9/11

The two islands of NZ.

Paella.

my first passion fruit.

Disappointments

Siblings, as a child I thought "what's the big deal?"

Raw oysters, yuck.

The Mona Lisa, so small, very underwhelming.

The end of rail travel.

Jurassic Park, the novel.



What blew you away in a good way and what left you flat?
 
Amazing:
Walking in the mountains or high plains on a crisp fall morning or evening.
The sound of distant thunder in the middle of the night.

Disappointing:
Traffic
Rude and/or arrogant people.
 
The 3 islands of New Zealand.

Stewart Island. The anchor stone.

  3. The wonder in the eyes of a small child.
  4. Both the frailty and strength of the human body.
  5. The feeling after communion.
  6. When Amy agreed with Nicole to join her in a threesome with me.

Disappointments

  1. The Minnesota Vikings and their Super Bowl appearances.
  2. Mortality
  3. The lack of common sense among people.
  4. People's lust for power and money.

Above Amazing:

Flying up close and personal around Denali in a PA-22. That's one big-ass piece of rock and snow.

Amazing:

My grand daughter with her arms outstretched for me.

Aerobatics in a T-6 Texan over the Chugach Mountains.

A 21 day trip on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon with 15 friends.

The short ribs I cooked on Saturday.

Any time I ski or mountain bike the Lekish loop at Kincaid park without stopping.

Disappointments:

My father.

Most of my wife's family.

Unkept promises.

I was only able to visit the North and South Islands, next time hopefully we'll make it to Stewart. We did get to get over to Kapati Island which was very interesting, creatures were totally unafraid of humans, even a bit curious.
