I'm a new member of the site, although I've been visiting on and off for a little while. At work this afternoon (lol - it was a slow day), I put a fantasy of mine into words and decided to submit it. While I'm waiting for approval, I thought I'd ask a couple of questions...
1) How long does it take for acceptance/rejection?
2) I write non-fiction normally. Anyway, my story today (total fiction - taboo style) mostly focuses on desires and the (kinda quick) build-up to the ultimate sex act(s), rather than character building, etc. It's good enough, I think, for a sense of the characters, but I didn't really put a lot into their personalities and history because I felt it would bore readers. It's not all fucking, but that's pretty much what the first several paragraphs leads up to.
... Do you think that a lot of character- and scene-building can take away from a story (especially if you're reading it simply to get excited and want to take care of business - ie., get off)? On the other hand, do you think that a story without in-depth characters and scenes is just a bunch of words and anyone with any interest in literature (no matter how trashy) would be bored because of lack of build-up? .... I guess my main question, then, is how do you find a happy medium?
Too much on my mind? LOL - it's been a loooonnnnngggg day at work. I'm so glad to be home (and enjoying this drink)!
