Am I the only one who thinks BDSM needs a cooler name?

You know, the kind of name that you'd be proud to drop. So when you start talking about it with your friends you don't have to sound like a tool within the very preface of the conversation?

We need a single word moniker, fuck this acronym shit. At the very least an acronym that makes a pronouncable word!

Somebody help me out here, it's a slow night.

I wish I could help ya but I am at a loss as well. I must agree with you though I am getting tired of trying to explain what I mean. My last conversation went something like this.

skipping the intro stuff

her "you could invite me out"
me "do you want to know anything about me?"
her "sure what ya want me to know"
me " I am a Dom does that bother you?"
her " ooh okay"
me " Do you know what that means?"
her "uhhh no"
me " I am a Dominant by nature and I like submissive women, I am into the BDSM lifestyle. Do you understand now?"
her "ohh ok No"

me " I like to use whips and chains on my partners and a lot of other things as well, I like to tie them up. Of course this is done with their permission"

her OOOOHHHHH gotta go bye
LOL
such is my life these days

Probably not.

i like it the way it is. It's so much fun to watch the non-BDSMers try to keep the letters straight. BSDM... DSBM ... BTFM... BDSN... etc ect. So comparable to all of the abbreviations for the multitude of common 'disorders' which have been given titles. Imagine some poor guy waslking into his Dr's office and telling him, "My wife says she is into CBT, DS and BDSM. Is it catching?? Can i get tested anonymously???". :p

LOL. I get The GLBT abreviation all wrong...I keep wanting to say GBLT, like the sandwich...was awfully embarassing after saying it to my gay cousin. he chuckled.

How about BSDM, pronounced "Bisdom" (to rhyme with "wisdom")?
Oooh I like. Actually the only problem I could see with it is that BDSM is supposed to stand for three things BD DS and SM.....So that order makes it BS SD and DM....doesn't quite fit.....We could call it BaDassSaM

Yeah, it needs a better name. Kink kinda cuts it but it also covers fetishes too which is related to BDSM but not included. Though I do think that bondage, while only a small facet of it, is a fitting name due to it's broad and mixed xonnotations.

i'll bet you at least KNEW what the board topic was though!! First time i posted there ( .. when i first registered here at Lit, and didn't know my way around the boards, nor the more common abbrevs, i thought it was a spin off of the General Board  ). i DID figure it out after i had received a few unexpected PMs/solicitations ... lol.

LOL, before I got my cousin to be honest about being gay he had told me he went out clubbing and the only 18+ club he could find (he's not 21 yet) was Venus...Venus is the GLBT club on this island....Now I've always figured that he atleast jumps the fence, but I still gave him a hard time about it cause I didn't KNOW he was completelly gay....in retrospect I feel like an ass.

Sinn0cent1 and I were discussing kinksters as shapes, and that maybe we're like playdough...it comes in many different colors and scents and it is shapable to what you want it to be....so we could change BDSM to the Playdough Gang. :nana:
Though I still think BaDassSaM is still cool

LOL!!

I like Bamasadi. I just tried it and it sounded cool, kind of like an Eastern discipline.

At a gathering......
Y/you say, "My partner and I practice Bamasadi"
Aquaintance, "Oh, what's Bamasadi?"
Y/you, "Its an ancient practice, a lifestyle if you will, centered on control and discipline, with many variations of course."
Aquaintance, "Really? Sounds interesting, please tell me more."
You raise an eyebrow, give that penetrating look and say "Well, be careful because once I tell you, this could lead to places you never expected to go tonight."

And so another journey begins.

Bamasadi. :rose:

BTW M- Best avatar I've seen from you yet!

LOL, 'bout the only place I use it is here, and y'all know what it means. Not into discussing it with our vanilla friends mainly because we know which ones are already aware of it and which ones aren't, and those that aren't are not going to benifit anything by being told about it. Most of F's friends know what our relationship is about, and all except 1 or 2 are happy to know and not talk about it. It is a mouthful though, but changing now is going to confuse way too many people who are already confused anough!!

Catalina :p

I know that K would appreciate it if we stopped using letters and used a word instead. He hasn't gotten the letters in the correct order once without help.

Okay, I feel so "newbie" asking this, but what does CBT mean? And is there a website or something with all the diff. abbriviations? 'Cause I've definately seen some out there that I don't know.

Cock & Ball Torture... check out the library for more info...

CBT is not mentioned, I noticed by the way,... which is fine by me cause I think that should be forbidden...

cock and ball torture

as for one word to sum it all up, or a phraise...
Kink sums it up sometimes - but kink is different person to person, so kink could mean anal sex or it could mean cbt.

to a vanilla sometimes "bondage" is enough, I know too many people who think bondage encompases disipline, following orders, submission, dominance and sadomasochism.

then theres sadomasochism, but that requires a song and a dance and usually results in a dead IM. Because they think its all sick and tied up rapist etc stuff.

How about Badasami, which keeps the letters in their original order, thus eliminating the objection tealsphynx had to my earlier suggestion? It retains the Eastern flavor and rhythm, too.

I was just going to suggest that, I'm glad I read down to your post.

Although I prefer Bamasadi, the m sound in the first sylabel flows whereas the d sound is hard, I can go with SW's suggestion. If so,
then I would pronounce it like this: ba da sam' i

Since I don't know how to insert phonetic characters here is the explanation (see your dictionary):

ba- the a pronounced like the a with 2 dots above it as in father
da- the a pronounced like the u with a curve above it as in cut
sam- sam is the primary stress sylabel, the a pronounced like the a with 2 dots above it
i- the i is pronounced as a long e, with a dash above it

Strange - that is just the way it "sounded" in my head. Great minds think alike, I guess. And, being the sadist I am, I like the emphasized syllable being the S/M one.

Just a suggestion here, but how about Bodisama? This somehow strikes me as more "honest," since it's faithful to the abbreviated words:

BOndage + DIscipline + SAdism + MAsochism

In my own mind, though, I refer to the grand superset of behaviors and relationships we cover here as D/s. This is because while virtually everything we talk about and live has to do with domination and submission, bondage, discipline, and sadomasochism are not necessarily part of everyone's preferred package of kinks.

As a sub, what works for me is voluntarily giving up control and trusting myself in the hands of someone whom I believe knows me, cares about me, and inspires me to be a better version of myself. It's up to her to pick her methods, and inappropriate and presumptuous of me to dictate kinks to her. Of course, I'll answer honestly about what I know has worked for/on me in the past, but that's just information offered for her convenience.

The point is, I've variously been involved with women who were heavily into bondage or not interested in it at all; women who were serious sadists, and women who were more interested in service and/or worship. It wasn't the specific activities we engaged in that worked for me--it's the sense of surrender to and trust in a Dominant woman, and the effort to please her in the ways she choose, that pushes my buttons.

So, when I discuss all this stuff, I usually call it D/s, because that's the key to the lifestyle; the B, D, and S&M are really nothing more than an incomplete list of means to that end.
