Sexual intercourse, you know- hide the weenie, hump the hostess, etc. is really not that much from eating.
We all love to eat because it meets a basic human need and gives us pleasure.
Sometimes we eat without thinking because our appetite is so overwhelming we gorge ourselves like hyenas on fresh meat. Nothing wrong with that. Now you may think a hyena is a repulsive creature, but did you ever consider how you might appear to them (this is besides the point). The point being we gobble each other up. Can be a lot of fun and there is nothing quite like a 3/4 pound Wendy's triple with cheese and a biggie fry when you are famished!
Sometimes we eat simply because it's time to eat. We aren't famished, but something added to the system is just what we need to keep the day going smoothly. We have a nice well-balanced and nutritious meal with all of the food groups represented. We take the time to chew our food and taste it, feel it going down, smile warmly and have some dessert and conversation. Again, how can anything be better than just a good meal that satisfies the belly and gives us a sense of plenty.
Sometimes our eating is an occasion. An event. A moment of art. We go beyond the day to day. We set the table with our best china, put care in to selecting the bill of fare, and great effort into adorning ourselves and our environment. And the act of eating becomes more than feeding, it's like theatre. We slowly savor and worship each sensory input that is tickled and affected. You know the kind of meals I am talking about.
None of these "styles" is superior to the other. They simply appeal to us more or less at different times. Personally, I love to eat and like eating in all of those ways. Food rocks. Nothing like a nice full belly- and nothing wrong with overstuffing every now and then.
But now, I think of sex and how so much of it is like eating. And I ponder it. I am outside myself, pondering. It's all in the head.
And our lives. What we make of our lives- how we see our lives- that's all in our heads too. And if that's true, I can see where I have really been stealing from myself for a very long time. (Friends, remind me not to do that- I am an autoklepto).
Some of you think I am nuts. Some of you think I am enlightened. Some of you think I am romantic. And some of you think I am clueless. That's all in your head.
I am me. I like myself this morning.
