Am I close?

I like to read on this site and masturbate. I've masturbated for years now. But I don't think I've ever had an orgasm. Within a few minutes I usually start to get a really good feeling, I sorta relax into it, enjoy the moment without a sense of urgency. Then it goes suddenly. I do that a few times and I feel satisfied.

I assume that isn't an orgasm, if it is I think they might be overrated. Am I getting close? Any suggestions on getting there? I've heard holding muscles a bit tense helps but I'm not finding it helpful.

It's difficult to know how close you are to your first orgasm without really being there, but it sounds like you may be stopping stimulation too quickly.

As for suggestions, have you explored this forum very much? If not, take a couple of weeks to read any and all threads that interest you and definitely take a poke through specific threads in The Blank Manual related to masturbating and becoming orgasmic.

While I'm a male (obviously orgasm is self-evident), the missus has some pretty intense involuntary muscle contractions when she orgasms. This was also my recollection of the few other women I was familiar with from earlier days.

In short, I think you would know it if you had achieved orgasm.

I'm not sure how old you are, but when I was younger I always had the same issue. It felt nice and all, but I just didn't think I was getting there. I now know that I was definitely stopping stimulation too early. Do you use your fingers or toys? It can take a while to get to know your body. I'm finding that I'm getting to know it better and better the older I get, and that the older I get, the better sex is in general. I'm 27, by the way. I hope further experimentation will help yield results. Good luck! :)

Yeah, sounds to me just like plain old arousal and not yet an orgasm. Keep on going, don't let up, and figuring out how to keep the excitement level up helps a lot.

Real orgasms are very intense good feelings; to me, it's blissful shivers all over lower body, sometimes everywhere, huge vaginal throbs and can't stay put. Yeah, you probably know when you reach it. :)

For several years on my own, I had experienced orgasms, however it was with a partner that I learned that I could cum even stronger if I kept going when I would usually stop myself. Usually now when I do orgasm, I get suddenly oversensitive and I never got that before, even though it felt really really good, I think it was just close to orgasm not an orgasm before.

You might want to consider a vibrator, or a plain old massager that you can buy at the mall, or using a removable shower head (that's how my friend had her first). The greater intensity will mean it's less "work" for you to achieve orgasm.
