Am I blind? I have looked everywhere I can think of on this site but I can't find the information I want.
I submitted a story a while ago now and I would like to know how long it takes for them to be on the site, or does lit let you know if it has been rejected? Any help would be great. Thanks.

If it has been rejected, it will say so on that story's stats box instead of Pending as it said before. There will also be a link to explain why it as rejected. If not you just have to be patient because they say 72 hours but my stories usually take 4 or 5 days to get submitted.

You'll be told if it's rejected. As to how long, that's the great Lit question. The length varies depending on the number of stories waiting to be posted. Laurel like to let every story spend at least one day on page one of the New list. That's when stories tend to pick up the most votes and views.

I've just had one posted today which I submitted four or five days ago. BUT (big BUT) the time varies. If it's been over a couple weeks, send Laurel a PM (not an e-mail) and ask if there's been a problem.

Good luck. I know the waiting is frustration.

Lately, it's been taking me 8 days to get a story submitted...just hang in there...if it's rejected, you will see the word "rejected" on your author's page next to the submission.

If you submit a Word file (like me), it takes longer because Laurel's beavers have to go through it manually.

Rumple, et al. given a Word document, how do you 'top and tail' it to be suitable for pasting in the box?

Need an idiot's guide here.

I use Word, and as long as there are no italics and such, I just "select all", copy then paste right into the box. Haven't had any problems so far, and both stories I submitted so far posted in six days.

Thanks a lot. Does that stop the need for manual work at Lit?

What happens if you've got bold or italics?

You're welcome. I'm pretty sure it does since I can preview how it will look on Lit right away.

I'm pretty sure that if you have bold and italics they prefer an attachment. I do remember someone mentioning you could use html tags like <i>... </i> if using the form. I can't quite recall which thread it was in though.

Manually insert the html tags for bold and italic, then paste into the form ( or submit as plain text (.txt) )

<b>bold text</b> | <i>italic text</i>

You can preview, and see all your formatting to check it, before submitting if you use either of these methods. They can be processed without extra work on Lit's part, and thus go through much faster.

You can also use <center></center> and <blockquote></blockquote>

If you want to preserve some special single space formatting ( scene breaks, poetry, etc ) you can also manually insert the <br> tag at the end of each line that requires single spacing.

I want this stuff<br>
To appear in single spacing<br>
So I'm putting in the formatting<br>

I submit all my stories as .doc files (Word 97) and they typically take between 4-6 days to be posted. Only once has a story taken a week before it went up.

I suppose it's all in the luck of the draw. ;)

Must be that Laurel likes your AV. :D

Thanks

Thanks for your replies everyone. You have all been a great help. I have since had a reply and now know where I stand, story wise and have contacted a volunteer editor to help me.
Once again, Thanks everyone.
