Looking for a story that was set in an alternate reality. There were multiple gods in the pantheon. The protagonist was a man that had just learned of his wife's affair. He is asked by a religious sect to participate in something like a "Great Hunt", where the women get a head start running off into the woods and then the men get to chase after them, kind of like a catch and release. A couple of the women conspire to let the protagonist catch them. I read it in passing once. I am not sure that the story line was actually finished, but then for some reason it stuck in my brain. I need to read it again just to scratch the itch.
