This afternoon I arrived home from he garage a bit pissed off. I needed some down time.
On the off chance that my Alzheimers inspired Bike would relent for the day I put the key in and hit the starter. Much to my surprise it fired right up and seemed to be running right. I shut it down without changing a thing and scampered inside to gear up.
Within minutes I was back out at the bike in my summer riding gear. Jeans and a T-Shirt as well as a helmet and half gloves. I fired the bike up an off I went for some well earned riding time.
I wasn't playing nice this time. I needed the ride as much as the ride needed me. I was pushing the bike to it's limits as I leaned into the corners and rolled on the throttle. Then I hit the back roads and relaxed.
If you have never ridden you wouldn't understand the thrill and relaxation of a ride like this. We're talking long straights and narrow roads with no traffic. We're talking corners that come up suddenly as well as long sweeping turns in the bright hot sun.
After 100 miles its back into town with it's sharp turns and traffic. It's back to grabbing the brake and watching the cars around me even as I lean into the turns and curves. It's looking in my mirrors as the light turns green and watching the traffic behind me looking like a Green White Checker restart at Talladega.
Then it happens. I pull into the Trailer Park and roll on the throttle and feel the engine beneath me hesistate as it coughs then dies. I pull in the clutch and coast the bike almost to my parking area.
Even as I push the bike into the parking area I'm grinning. It's been a great ride.
Now that I have the car fixed I have to get the bike running right, then I'll be happy.
