I saw this last weekend, and it absolutely blew me away. It is easily the best film I've seen so far this year (though there are still some quality films that I've yet to see), and also my favorite Almodóvar movie to date. I'm a huge fan of his work, and he seems to grow by leaps and bounds with each new work. He has an amazing ability to create characters that are utterly unlike anyone I've ever met, but are at the same time completely believable and three dimensional. They may exhibit personalities and behaviors that seem bizarre, but their own internal logic never waivers. By the end of the film, you feel like you know these characters.

The score, by Almodóvar's regular collaborator Alberto Iglesias, is absolutely heartbreaking as well

Has anyone else seen this movie? If so, what are your impressions? Please try not to give away any plot twists, if possible.

I'm just voting Pedro one of my favourite filmmakers total. His stuff I've always loved.

Such a good movie.

The characters are wicked strong. Each one giving the audience something to hang on to, and leaving them with a need to know. They weren't just put on screen to be pretty, - and some of them are quite pretty - they made you feel for them in some way or another and left an impression.
The story was just captivating. There's no way I could every walk out of the theater in the middle of a show like that. Just draws you in and doesn't let go. The light-heartedness of some scenes balanced well with the deep seriousness of others. The editing was excellent and the flow of the scenes was good stuff. The twists were perfect, too. I don't think there could have been a better end than the one we got.

If you're able, see this joint. It's vanglorious, and worth the pennies.

Rosario Flores, who plays the Bullfighter, is a kickass flamenco singer, too!

is that the one where the guy borrower-sized himself and was checking out the jungle between her thighs?......;)

Did Almodovar do Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown? Or am I totally off track here?

No, you're on the right track.

I'm been meaning to go see this one. Been holding off till the person I want to go see it with gets here first.

He rocks, and he just gets better and better. I thought he would be hard pressed to surpass All About My Mother, but Talk to Her is even better.

Speaking of singing, my mouth was hanging open during Caetano Veloso's entire performance in the movie. What a beautiful song. I don't buy many soundtracks, but I'm definitely going to buy this one.

Exactly, baby. That was actually a hilariously twisted silent black and white film-within-the-film, which in addition to being funny as hell, actually helps to understand one of the character's motivations.

I can't recommend this movie strongly enough. It really is a masterpiece.

I haven't seen any of his recent stuff. I just keep watching Labyrinth of Passion. I am waiting for the right mood to strike or something... .
I have a lot to catch up on. That is good .

I think you would love All About My Mother, baby. We should rent it one Saturday.

Have I told you lately that I love you?

lol....i was just searching for it on amazon.....and yes....you have.....<smiling big>....and i love you.....

sounds like a definite Saturday Night Date movie....;)

All About My Mother is next Saturday night....yay!

tonight we're watching Amelie.....:)

Amelie - tis an excellent movie! You'll love it, and her.

Question to all A. fans - several months ago, I watched what I thought was an A. movie about a guy who gets spurned by the woman he loves, gets into an accident and wakes up in a life that's similar to his and not his own. This movie takes a bit of a sci-fi turn with its talk of cryogenics and after-death experiences, but its in Spanish and the film-syle certainly reminded me of A. It also starred Penelope Cruz.

A quick google of A.'s movies leaves me wondering if perhaps I imagined the whole thing.

Does anyone know this movie?

Not A., but Alejandro Amenabar. I highly recommend this movie.

Love all Almodovar's films; he gets such amazing performances from his casts.
