I had an idea of writing a story with another person to add a second perspective to the story. Basically so the reader could understand how both characters thought and felt. How do you guys like this idea?

just my opinion...

I have read a few of, but not all of your stories (lack of time), and I really enjoy your writing style. Your stories come across really crisply and hold your interest well.

In my opinion, if it aint broke, don't fix it, and your stories aren't broke.

I haven't read your stories, but I figure my advice may still be useful.

You don't need to collaborate with another writer to add another point of view. If your stories are in third person, it's not difficult to add the other character's pov. In my novella "Hostile Takeover," I switched from Fiona's to Rockwell's povs regularly throughout. Here's a link if you want to take a look.

Hostile Takeover, Chapter One

The easiest way is to insert a break inside the chapter and switch povs until the next chapter break. You'll see in "Takeover" that the entire first chunk of Chapter One is in Fiona's pov until she goes to bed. Then, you get a double space and BOOM, you're in Rockwell's pov.

You can also switch within a chapter and without a break, but it can be a little trickier. You have to signal to the reader that you've changed povs with a sort of clue-them-in sentence, like "Michael looked at her and thought how perfectly her tits would fit in his hands." The minute a reader is in on what a character is thinking, they know whose pov they're in. I do this type of switch also in "Takeover," but I'm not sure if I do it in the first chapter. I think maybe near the end, but I can't recall for sure.

Personally, I dislike the type of stories that tell the whole story from one person's pov, and then tell it all over again from the other pov. To me that makes for a tedious read, and one I won't usually even bother with. But that's just my opinion.
