Does anyone here watch Midsomer Murders, Poirot, A touch of Frost or Prime Suspect?

I just love those shows and I've been buying up the DVD sets of them for the last couple of months. I watch them on the Biography channel and record them, too.

Shy was wonderful enough to remind me what the Helen Mirran show was (Prime Suspect) and I've been on amazon.com looking for those.

Anyway, I'm gonna have plenty of time to watch this stuff in the upcoming weeks and just wondered if anyone else watches.

I just have a love for all things British. I have the videos of what's-his-name's History of Britian and the book that goes with it. And lots of other books that relate to that wonderful area of the world. Someday, I want to go there and see it all. I found a great website a while back that sells blue stone stuff - the stone that was used to build Stonehenge - and want to buy some of it for my kids. (LOL... it's all in pounds and not dollars, though.)

Okay, sorry for rambling. I just started watching Midsomer Murders and thought I'd share this.

Carry on... ;-)

I love Poirot! From the bassoon theme and cubist credits to the tip of his moustache.

Also, Sherlock Holmes as played by Jeremy Brett. Those episodes & films are exactly how my imagination treats the stories.

I just LOVE Helen Mirren - she has nearly four decades of excellent work! ;) As for shows, I can't think of anything that I specifically follow. (Biography rocks!)

Scones and tea are lovely. High tea in Arizona has always been one of my favorites. *giggle*

David Suchet is absolutely the very best Poirot ever!!! God, I love him and he can be soooo droll... yaknow?

Sherlock and Touch of Frost are 2 that I've never gotten real attached to, but I still do watch them, on occassion.

This is cool... I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who loves that stuff!!!

I love Helen Mirren - did I misspell her name? I watched Elizabeth I on HBO a couple of weeks ago and she was just wonderful in it.

Well the closest I've come to high tea was in BC. Those folks are just marvelous and so warm and hospitable.

(I'm in AZ at this moment, too. High tea in the high desert... LOL I like that. )

Love them all, and also Silent Witness.

Okay, refresh my memory... I know I've heard of that but I can't place it. Who's in it? That's not the Poirot episode about the dog, is it?

Silent Witness is based on forensic pathologist Dr. Sam Ryan, played by Amanda Burton...bit like CSI, but started in the mid 90's. It was written by an ex-cop and has that irresistable British sensibility and cool, collected approach to cases, with a touch of the personal backgrounds interweaved and adding authenticity. Never get tired of most of these Brit programmes, but then I am a freak for much more, including their comedy. Nice to Jonathon Ross goth the entertainer award last night....he is priceless.

Okay. I'm heading off to amazon to find this. ;-)

I know I've seen at least one episode of it at some time in my life... it rings real bells with me.

Thank you!

This is that stonehenge stone site. I love this necklace and unfortunately the image is not that good. But I want this!!!

Really bad.

Of course it's in pounds, like I said and I have to do a conversion thing for it. But, it's the coolest thing I've ever seen. I'd love to buy the keychains for my kids, too.

(Jesus... I need to go back to work... all I want to do is spend money. LMAO.)

Stonehenge is a beautiful place, you can't touch the stones anymore as they are protected which is a shame; but seeing the sunset over the site is amazing.

Helen Mirren is often called 'The thinking mans crumpet' as she is quite sexy without being obvious lol

ADR when your ready to convert $ to £ for a spending spree and have tea with cream scones let me know.

I will happily join you.

But don't forget your umbrella as its usually raining LOL

I also have a few UK shows that I like to watch:

Coupling
Red Dwarf
Top Gear
Ground Force

We love Coupling and are just watching the first of the new Top Gear series as it is a fave also...Red Dwarf is also good. Have to say I love most of the Brit comedies, and lately have been enjoying repeats of As Time Goes By (love that programme and Judi Dench) and To The Manor Born (class act). :D Oh, damn, he also has gotten me sucked into Dr Who finally with the new series.

No mention of Black Books?...

...I am soooo disappointed that the most funniest and greatest modern british comedy show "Black Books" has yet to be mentioned.

Manny on the phone with cleaners: I need you're help. This place is an absolute mess. I'm eating eggs...out of a shoe...with a comb!

You just can't get any funnier than that. :)

Top Gear, Shooting Stars, Still Game, and Little Britain are awesome too.

Your right, Black Books is great, but its not on the screens in the UK at the moment.

Little Britain and League of Gentlemen are also very funny, I bought the DVD's to show Andante as they are not screened in DK.
Hmmm he makes me learn Danish (or at least try to) and I teach him Brit comedy.
He gets the better deal :(

On an aside, so far all I can say in Danish is 'Hi my name is......, I am a slut' Now what kind of job will that get me?

Ohhhh Little Britain is superb. A friend suggested I watch it as she knows I was unlikely to pick up on it ( I almost never watch TV ). So smitten we headed out the next day and bought Series 1 & 2 on DVD. I have a member of my immediate family that depends on a wheelchair for mobility and he just thinks its fabulous how the Andy character well 'abuses' his perceived situation........smiles

Little Britain Offical Website ~ Click Me

Some of my all time favorites

Absolutely Fabulous
Black Adder
Let Them Eat Cake ( has a de Sade episode......winks...requires SPEW ALERT)
Men Behaving Badly

I love all things British, except for mince pies and blood pudding. My Master is a Brit.... Gracie, Blackadder ROCKS... "Are the words 'I have a cunning plan!' marching towards this conversation with ill-deserved confidence?"

Mince pies are YUCK (and traditionally english) but do you mean 'black pudding?'
Its made from oats, fat and animal blood? Its about 2cm thick and small round shapes. As you look at it its black with big globs of white fat shining through it.
It sounds awful but tastes ok, I don't eat it because of what its made of, not how it tastes.

Have you ever tried Haggis??
Its wonderful, amazing and filling.
But I may have said that before lol

White pudding is similiar to black but without the blood. Its usually battered and deep fried, like haggis, its found in Scotland (never seen or heard of England/Wales/Ireland having white pudding) its really filling and tastes great. Adds calories and furs arteries just by smelling it LOL

I wonder why Scotland has the worst heart disease problem in the world and heavier 12 yr olds than the US

:( still waiting to learn how to say

"Hello my name is rebecca and I am a slut"......... in Danish

Miss Shy you suck :D

Meat pies and black pudding are some of the things I miss most about my time in the UK. Ummmmm, black pudding is soooooo good when it's a little crunchy on the outside and served with beans. :D

Ms. Shy, I believe she meant blood pudding, cause I have inside information. :D But you're right, it's the same thing as black pudding. I made it once for a diversity day breakfast and she took about two bites and decided she didn't like it. We always called it Blood Pudding at home (County Mayo) but in Dublin I heard it called Black Pudding too.

a pity blood pudding is quite nice, although I wouldn't choose to eat it at evey breakfast like some people
what about good old roast beef and yorkshir puddings? sunday lunch sitting in a pub, eating roast beef that looks like it's been boiled
