Coronavirus Pandemic 2020 is not enough of a reason for Trump
to stop telling lies. Not enough of a crisis for anyone that swore
loyalty to Trump, to stop telling lies to the public.

Steven Mnuchin says Trump didn’t get ‘things wrong at all’
in his coronavirus address. That’s absurd.

- Aaron Blake

March 15, 2020

This is a familiar exercise within the Trump administration.
Trump says something false, and the people around him are
forced to account for it. But because admitting the boss was
wrong, is for some reason just not an option, they double down
and torch their own credibility in the process.

The Trump administration has offered a German medical company
“large sums of money” for exclusive access to a Covid-19 vaccine,
German media have reported.

The German government is trying to fight off what it sees as an
aggressive takeover bid by the US, the broadsheet Die Welt reports,
citing German government circles.

The US president had offered the Tübingen-based biopharmaceutical
company CureVac “large sums of money” to gain exclusive access
to their work, wrote Die Welt.

According to an anonymous source quoted in the newspaper,
Trump was doing everything to secure a vaccine against the
coronavirus for the US, “but for the US only”.

From the point of view of government officials, the dispute
extends beyond the specific individual case. Selling a company
with a vital drug is a matter of national security, it says.
In extreme cases, reference is made to paragraph 6 of the
Schengen Borders Code.

It said:
“Border controls should help combat illegal immigration and
trafficking in human beings and prevent any threats to internal
security, public order, public health and the international relations
of the Member States.”

In some ministries, migration of scientists or research results
is in fact currently assessed as a matter of public policy.
A ban on the sale of companies under the Foreign Trade
and Payments Act cannot be ruled out as soon as public
order or security is at risk.

Which is all very nice of Trump and his cronies.
Anyone would think he actually tested positive
and was desperate…

(I don’t believe that. Or do I…?)

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/tippl...rity-trump-seeks-exclusive-rights-to-vaccine/

“Die Welt then reported that the United States reached out to broker
an exclusive deal on the vaccine, prompting the German government
to try to counter.”

Get out there with your people, Devin. Get in crowds of Trumpettes. Press the flesh. Mingle.

Who's going to step up to telling Nunes that buying $4,000 worth of groceries in a local grocery store is going support working people and small businesses ten times spending $400 in a restaurant and pub does?

Nope.

Trump is not letting go of this lie.

"Stung by criticism that the White House had overstated the readiness
and the scope of the website, Trump said Google's statement
"substantiated what I said on Friday" and complained about
coverage of the discrepancies."

The Plum Line

Trump’s rage at the media takes a dangerous new turn

Trump is now raging at the media for reporting on his botched
claims about Google’s plans for a new website to steer people
to testing options.

Trump is now blaming the media for supposedly getting this
wrong, insisting the project is progressing just as he claimed.

Trump’s declaration that, in a larger sense, the media is not
being truthful at a time of crisis.

Trump is using his megaphone to tell the American people
not to trust an institution they must rely on for information
amid an ongoing public health emergency, all because that
institution held him accountable for his own failures on this
front.

Trump in essence tried to place this decision beyond scrutiny
entirely and lashed out at the media for trying to hold him
accountable for it.

Trump has repeatedly lashed out at reporters for the very same
transgression — trying to hold him accountable for his own
words and deeds.

See- PBS reporter Yamiche Alcindor's questions & CNN reporter Jim Acosta's

"The big story here is that we’re now seeing just how catastrophically
unsuited Trump’s brand of autocracy truly is in the face of a crisis like
this one."
- Greg Sargent

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/03/16/trumps-rage-media-takes-dangerous-new-turn/

Trump is waging a war against reality, that he might win a kingdom of his very own.
He might wear a pretend crown in private, but in public, there are annoying
Democrats, and Supreme Court judges that cannot be bought, to point out the
reality that currently exists. It does not matter to him, that real, live, breathing,
flesh and blood people will suffer and die, unwillingly. Trump could possibly
have admiration for novel coronavirus, since, it too, is a parasite that eats away
at a society, and survives because of the cost to others.

Look What Bill Barr Just Did While You Were Busy With Coronavirus

We are sorry, but at some point, as coronavirus becomes our new normal, we are all going to have to figure out how to hold two things in our heads at once. (We are preaching to ourselves as much as to you.) Smart people are starting to grapple with questions of whether Donald Trump can actually be trusted with the emergency powers he has (SPOILER fuck no), and people are rightly concerned about the precedent of Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine forcibly canceling (OK fine, "postponing") the other party's primary election for a very good reason, but in an act that under any other circumstances would have people in the streets raising holy hell.

The point is, we gotta watch these motherfuckers like hawks, while we also try to keep ourselves and our friends and families safe from the pandemic. Just a month ago, we were shouting from the rooftops about Attorney General Bill Barr taking ever more obvious actions to turn the Justice Department into nothing more than a vehicle for avenging Trump's personal grievances, after DOJ intervened to reduce the recommended sentence for Trump's crime buddy Roger Stone. The president of the United States was attacking the foreperson of the Stone jury on Twitter.

None of that went away. It's just in the background.

So how is Bill Barr using his coronavirus time? Is he making sure all the Cracker Barrels and Bob Evanses within a 200-mile radius of DC are willing to deliver to where he lives, all the way up Donald Trump's a-hole, so he doesn't have to go out and get coughed on? No, he's just social distancing from the Russians who attacked our election in 2016 and are doing it right now, again, in 2020.

"A Google-affiliated program to allow people to schedule coronavirus tests
online has been hyped by Donald Trump"

Verily’s pilot program was supposed to offer something more innovative:
a website where anyone can complete a quick screening, and then, if
eligible, schedule a in-person test at a mobile location.

The website has already prompted major privacy concerns, even as
its site reached capacity for scheduling new tests only hours after its
launch.

Five Democratic senators, including California’s Kamala Harris, wrote in a letter
to the Alphabet CEO, Sundar Pichai, on Wednesday that they were concerned
that neither the company nor the Trump administration had “assessed what privacy
and cybersecurity vulnerabilities may arise” in launching a public coronavirus
screening website, and requesting detailed information on how the company
would use, share, and project the personal data submitted through the screening
website.

The pilot screening tool, from Verily’s Project Baseline, required users
to login with a Google account, or to create one.

“All the data provided by Baseline users for screening is stored separately
and not linked to any of Google’s products and services,” a Verily spokeswoman
said in a statement on Wednesday. “Data will not be used for advertising purposes.”

Trump Signs Coronavirus Relief Bill Providing Paid Leave to Small
Fraction of U.S. Workers

Mar 19, 2020

President Trump Wednesday signed a coronavirus relief package providing
unemployment benefits and free coronavirus testing to millions of Americans
suddenly out of a job. The aid package guarantees paid sick leave to less than
20% of American workers. It does not apply to companies with 500 or more
employees, and workplaces with fewer than 50 employees can request to opt
out.

Makes a partisan argument that has nothing to do with reality-

Objecting to a provision in the Senate coronavirus bill providing unemployment
benefits for people in financial trouble, Sen. Lindsey Graham says nurses are
"going to make $24 an hour on unemployment" which he claims would incentivize
"taking people out of the workforce."

‘You downplayed the threat’: ABC host chews out Larry Kudlow for calling the virus ‘contained’

Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, on Sunday defended calling the novel coronavirus outbreak “contained” just days before large swaths of the country were forced to shelter inside their homes.

In an interview on ABC’s This Week, host Martha Raddatz asked the White House adviser why he was predicting “weeks, not months” of economic turmoil due to the global pandemic.

“Well, listen, I say that — weeks — it could be four weeks, it could be eight weeks,” Kudlow replied. “I say that hopefully and I say that prayerfully. That’s what some of the science experts have been telling us. I don’t know if they’ll be right.”

Steve Mnuchin insists Americans can live on just $17/day during pandemic

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on Sunday said that he expects Americans to be able to survive for two and a half months on just $1,200, which is about $17 per day.

“I think the entire package provides economic relief overall for about 10 weeks,” Mnuchin explained. “Hopefully we will kill this virus quicker and we won’t need it, but we have liquidity to put into the American economy to support American workers and American business.”

Clue as to why broken ventilators were sent to California, from the
federal stockpile

Hey! Taxpayers spent money to purchase ventilators from you!

On the same day in July that the FDA cleared the stockpile version of the ventilator,
it granted the application of Philips’ U.S. subsidiary, Respironics, to sell commercial
versions of the Trilogy Evo. Philips quickly began shipping the commercial models
overseas from its Murrysville, Pennsylvania, factory.

March 31, 2020

Five years ago, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services tried to plug
a crucial hole in its preparations for a global pandemic-
signing a $13.8 million contract with a Pennsylvania manufacturer to create
a low-cost, portable, easy-to-use ventilator that could be stockpiled for
emergencies.

This past September, with the design of the new Trilogy Evo Universal finally
cleared by the Food and Drug Administration, HHS ordered 10,000 of the
ventilators for the Strategic National Stockpile at a cost of $3,280 each.

But as the pandemic continues to spread across the globe, there is still not
a single Trilogy Evo Universal in the stockpile.

Instead last summer, soon after the FDA’s approval, the Pennsylvania company
that designed the device — a subsidiary of the Dutch appliance and technology
giant Royal Philips N.V. — began selling two higher-priced commercial versions
of the same ventilator around the world.

An HHS spokeswoman told ProPublica that Philips had agreed to make the
Trilogy Evo Universal ventilator “as soon as possible.” However, a Philips
spokesman said the company has no plan to even begin production anytime
this year.

Jared Kushner has his sticky paws on a deal!

King Donald the Goon proudly trotted out coronavirus test kits that are incomplete,

Trump promotes usually violates expectations.

In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom had sobering news Saturday,
saying patients needing ICU care in the state had gone up 105%
overnight and hospitalizations for COVID-19 patients had risen
nearly 40%.

Newsom spoke Saturday from of a Bay-area fuel cell plant that's
now working to refurbish ventilators. He said the state now has
more than 400 COVID-19 ICU patients. He called that number
"relatively modest" but warned that as new confirmed cases
continue the percentage increase was of deep concern.
