All My Stories Lost Their Hot Status? No Ratings Available Anymore?

Hey there,

I've just noticed that all my submissions have suddenly lost their "hot" status; as I had disabled the voting on them some time ago already, I have no explanation as to the how or why of this sudden change (it must have happened in the last few days). Furthermore, when I enable the voting again in the control panel now all I get for my submissions is a "null/[number of votes]" display, whereas before the rating score was displayed together with the number of votes for each submission.

Does that mean that all the ratings of my submissions have now been lost?

If so, is this a bug or something (e.g., database error) that others on the site are afflicted with too?

Since this is a rather grave error (if it is an error), I'd be glad if Manu could check in on this and give an explanation or—even better yet—present a solution to this sudden data loss!

I'm fairly certain that the H remaining on stories where voting was disabled was an oversight from the beginning. Turning off voting was supposed to erase all benefits of allowing scoring, including the H. Perhaps that oversight has finally been corrected.

As to not being able to access your data... Virtually everything on Lit has a delay. It may be that the scores will show up again some time in the next 24 hours.

If this is so, it would still be a good idea to communicate that to the users, wouldn't it?

If you lose all your ratings once you disable votings, their should be a notification in the control panel about that (as there is now the notification that your stories will no longer be eligible for contests). Still, even if, as you propose, that the H remaining on stories where voting has been disabled was an "oversight," it's no explanation as to why all of a sudden now there are no ratings at all displayed in the control panel after enabling votings again!

I'm also curious if others who have disabled voting on (some of) their submissions observe the same apparent data loss issue as I.

I checked a few profiles where I knew they had disabled voting to ensure they didn't lose their H, and all the Hs for those stories were gone, so it looks like that's universal.

I wouldn't panic about your data being lost until it's been at least 24 hours. For instance, whenever you make an edit, and it's approved, the changes are present in the database, but you can't see them for 24-48 hours.

You could ask someone to cast a vote on one of those stories, or do it yourself. If it records that and shows you 1 vote and that score, then it's absolutely time to panic.

I'm not panicking; I'd just like to know what's going on here. And if this issue affects all profiles, I think other authors would like to know just as well . . .
