Alkahest Academy
Loosely based on FMA.
(Very, very loosely. Just a basic understanding of the series would be enough to get into this thread.)
Please see OOC thread for char's and to sign up your own. Please do not post unless I've ok'ed your char!! We're looking for more students, both with good intentions and bad, as well as professors and a Dark Alchemest (Basically, a bad ass bad dude. See OOC for more on him). If you're interested in that char, please PM me first.

"Nothing Surpasses the Law of Equivalent Exchange."
The plaque was a reminder to all the students, not only those new to the academy, but those who still resided in its walls. Nothing could be given without a trade of equal worth.

Alkahest Academy was meant to show those with a talent in alchemy that this was not just a light suggestion... but something that was to be heeded. Training allowed all the budding alchemists to learn how to control their talent, as well as how to obey this law. Most of the students of Alkahest were there with good intentions... but there were still rumors of those with ill intent walking the halls.

Vi Hartwell had stayed on campus for spring break. It seemed funny, that the academy took a few months off for the students to relax... But she saw the point in it. It was hard to be set on the studies all the time. She herself snuck offsite to go to the coffeeshop quite often, but found that a number of other students did the same thing. Curfew wasn't exactly a cemented rule in this place.

She had just finished cleaning up her dorm room, a small space that most seemed surprised to find the daughter of a former professor in. There were far bigger rooms for those with money- but Vi didn't want to be seen as anyone special. She had attention enough for the disappearance of her father. She changed her clothes from her night pants and tank to her usual deep purple jacket and pink skirt, then tugged on her high black boots. Classes weren't set to start for another day, but she was eager to see who else was coming in.

Fenrir stood at the door of his assigned living quarters. The funding he obtained ensured he would be able to study in peace, with his luggage still in tow he pushed the door open. It was a suitable size, with enough corners for shadows to creep forward in case he was interrupted. He placed a large duffel bag on his bed, and a solid metal case down by the desk.

A slight grinding sound could be heard as he released the metal case. He groaned as he popped open the storage unit and drew forth a small srynge of oil. He hesitated for a moment before pulling the sleeve of his jacket up, exposing the machine underneath. After a quick application the grinding ceased, he placed the srynge on his desk as he carefully flexed the arm.

He placed several ancient books upon the desk, running his flesh and blood hand over each with care. He then placed both hands on the desk, there was a soft red light given off, then nothing, the light seemed to no longer illuminate the desk. Darkness now surrounding the corner of his room.

Quickly drawing the sleeve overtop the mechancal arm and drawing a set of dark leather gloves over his hands he left his room.

He had a mission to accomplish, and it was time to see if she made herself useful. If not, a use can be found for all thralls one way or another.

Walking down the halls of the dormitory muttering to herself about how her parents are forcing her to stay cooped up in the dorms for spring break instead of going on that cruise she so had her heart set on. She was rubbing her gloved hands together building a light charge to take it out on the next person who she crossed paths with. As luck had it she saw a male just exiting his room. She took a piece of paper from her pocket, pretended to to read it as she continued to walk, and bumpsright into the male. The she turns and growls at the male.

"Hey you better watch were you are going, mister. Nerve of such people"

She then goes to grab his arm with a lightly charged hand.

Vivian glanced up as she left her room, smiling at the two outside already standing on the walkway with a nod. "Oh.. excuse me...," She said softly, her hands resting in her pockets to clutch the little black gloves residing in them. Ever since losing them last semester, she was paranoid of doing it again. Buying new ones wasn't the problem, she could afford it easily... but these were a gift. Sentimental values were far more than any shop price.

A few new faces already. Wonderful! Some new people to talk to in the classes.. and hopefully some gentler sparring partners when it came to the training field.

Fenrir stepped out of his room, carefully adjusting the glove on his automailed arm. Last thing he needed were foolish questions, as he turned to meet someone, he noticed a flurry of silver hair crash into him.

"Hey you better watch were you are going, mister. Nerve of such people" he noted a small hand reach out of his mailed arm, he couldn't react in time. The witch had gotten too close, he realized she was an alchemist as he could feel the buzzing in his ears.

The shock knocked him backwards, he slowly drew himself to his feet, his shirt sleeve was shredded from her attack. Her gaze was distracted on his mailed arm. He pushed the girl who appeared after the silver haired one's prank to the side.

"Miserable cow, how dare you use such a primitive attack!" His look changed from anger to a sadistic grin, these hallways were quite dark, he gave a cold chuckle "Your an alchemist...cute,"

His automailed hand touched the floor, with that the shadows of the hallway grew outwards, there was the sound of something moving within the shadows. The darkness began to surround the girl as Fenrir grinned, "You call that a shock, witch? Allow me to demonstrate something...more proper."

Edit: Ack! I took too long to post!

Smiling watching the boy fall several feet back. Grinning as she sees her handy work.

"Man that packed more of a punch that I thought it would."

Then she eyes the males metal arm and figures out thats why the shock was more intense than intended. She was more than happy with the results as as the looked over the target of her aggression some more. Then she spouts a quick remark.

"What a wuss, being thrown back by a tiny charge. I don't have time to mess around with kiddie stuff I have stuff to do."

With that remark she walks past them and continues on her way not realising what was happening around her.

The upstart's comment only spurred Fenrir on. He could feel the alchemy come alive, the same as before. The girl walked right into his creation, perfect!

A tendril shot out from the darkness, it wrapped itself around the girl's arm, another around her leg. The tendrils jerked backwards, launching the girl back down the hallway she came from. Fenrir grinned as he willed the shadows to teach this upstart a lesson. The tendrils latched onto her top, and with another tug, her uniform top was now in tatters.

"Word of advice, keep out of my way, or I'll show you I'm capable of something far greater then a simple parlour trick." The area the tendrils came from seemed to fade back to where the shadows should be in the hallway.

Fenrir turned and walked away, trying to hide the pain from his alchemy and the shock he received. His automail felt allright, a slight twitch, but considering what just happened he dismissed any permanent damage. There was no need to continue the fight, he had other business to attend to.

Getting up looking at her tattered uniform, dusting herself off, looking around wondering what type of freaky alchemy was that. But not wanting him to get the best of her, Electra calls back to him from down the hall

"You bastard! You better walk away before I get really pissed. You don't know who you are messing with. You better watch your back and your gimp arm there."

She storms in her room, slams the door shut and puts on an extra uniform she had out of the tons she had specialy orderd before flopping back into her bed screaming into a pillow.

"If my day wasn't bad enough"

Amadeus Colzmem gritted his teeth as he watched the little confrontation play itself out in the hallway. Slipping his hands in his pockets he pushed past Fenrir, shooting a glance at the young man. Deus hadn't dealt with Fenrir much and knew him mostly by reputation. And that reputation was that he was a dick with a chip on his shoulder.

But the young sound alchemist kept his mouth shut. Brawling in the hallways was a sure fire way to get expelled and Deus had too much riding on his education here to chance it.

Whistling a tune to himself he headed towards the auditorium. There he could make a nice big noise and nobody would complain. Grinning at the thought, Deus whistled a bit louder, forgetting Fenrir entirely.

After a long heated argument with her father over the phone about wiring more money into her account, Electra slams down the reciev.er and shreiks. She really didn't need the money, just she liked to keep her account over 50,000 dollars. She decided to go for another walk, but this time she was going to try avoid unnessacry fights. She walked by the auditorium.door was left open, which was odd cause usally the front enternce remained locked unless an event was going on. She slowly peers through the door and looks around.

Feros Drakengaard sat in a chair out by the pool. He was relaxing, of course. He had spent most of the semester on his project, and had passed with flying colors. But he had also spent some time helping Vivian Hartwell and some of the other new students. Right now, however, he was laying out and watching the water.

Electra enters the auditorium slowly, scanning for signs of life. She calls out.

"Hello anyone in here?"

She searches a little more and spots a male. Wondering what's he's doing in the auditormium she just watches him for now.

Deus heard the girl approaching. The acoustics created by the polished crystal walls of the auditorium collected and amplified even the whispers and bounced it all back to him.

Keeping his back to her he raised a hand up to ask for her silence. "Be with you in two seconds...for now just stand there and try to breath quietly"

Taking a few steps foreword, Deus laid his palm flat onto of a large, cube of black marble. Running his fingertips across the surface, studying every inch and corner, every line of the marble. Taking a step back, he drew in a deep breath and clapped his hands together. The sound of his palms coming together thundered against the walls, bouncing off the glass like walls.

Cupping his palms together, he slammed a single hand down onto of the marble block. A second clap echoed again followed by a shrill, high-pitched whine. The volume of the whine increased, sounding like a swarm of furious wasps before the entire block shuddered and split down the middle, before shattering in a sudden shower of tiny marble fragments.

Stepping back from the split block, Deus shielded his face with his arms before turning to examine his work. His face broke into a wide grin and he thrust his arms up in the air in victory.

"That's it! The resonant frequency! It's taken me 3 months to isolate it but I nailed it!" Spinning around to face the girl, Deus laughed out loud in excitement.

Fenrir found the library quite barren as the most of the students were still enjoying the time before classes began again. Their sloth wasn't his concern! He grimaced as his automail jerked again, dammit, did that girl damage his arm after all?

He found the tome he was looking for, it dealt in primarily concepts and theory involving the use of Dark alchemy, and the manipulation of a substance called void. He knew damn well the price of the alchemy was contained within his automail, the small red gem set within the base acted as the catalyst. He could form whatever he wanted, all he needed was the absense of light.

He heard hushed whispering, he noticed several students watching him and giggling. Idiots! They were the same lot of fools that taunted Claudia at her last test to fail, her testing was "delayed" by one of his own pets disrupting the trasmutation circle in the testing hall. He wanted to see the girl not only pass the test but outshine those pitiful classmates. He approached her that night and offered her something he wouldn't allow anyone to know of, a vial of his blood. Something that held enough alchemic properties, a tattoo using this would increase her talents. The following week, she had passed the test at the top of her class. He closed the book and turned his gaze towards the students. They quickly dispersed, allowing him to return to his study.

"Maybe I can be given some peace and quiet..." He growled as he returned to his book.

Vi worked her way to the cafeteria, craving one of the few items that seemed to turn out well in the kitchen- the chocolate muffins. Snatching one up, she nibbled on the top of it and started out to walk the grounds. She had learned a few new things at the trial grounds, but she was still so leery on messing something up with it.

She settled on the ground beneath one of the main walkway's trees, sketching a basic circle in the dirt with her finger. Her gloves already had a more complex one embroidered into them... but she liked to make dirt creatures. Nothing spectacular required for that...

---------------

Claudia had no interest in sleeping. She found that her room held a rather distinct smell to it, one that left her ill. The library, however, was much more comforting. The only smell here was the scent of the pages and covers; old leather and paper. The scent of knowledge, as she thought of it.
She had a few books in her arms as she rounded one of the cases, glancing up and almost dropping them as she spotted Fenrir.

Clutching the books a bit tighter, she gave a quick smirk and pushed her sunglasses back up with her ring finger. A surprise to find him, but a good one nontheless. She settled a few chairs down from him, kicking her black booted feet up onto the table as she opened one of the books. "A bit too much in the public eye out there?," She asked softly, a smile on her face as she kept her head down.

"A bit too much in the public eye out there?"

Fenrir looked up from his book and smirked, "Aren't I always? Someone needed a lesson in manners, she was given one. Nothing more, although my automail took a good zap. I let my guard down." He gestured to the burnt section of his shirt sleeve. He took a look at the books she had brought over, "Erm, do you need assistance with anything?"

"Oh, these?" Claudia shook her head, resting a hand on the bookpile. "No, no.... Just filling a few gaps in some of the theories I memorized. From what I hear, there's someone around here attempting to find the resonant frequency..." She licked her finger, turning the page in her held book. "Once I find out who, I can get you more information on that. Perhaps it could be something useful for you."

Holding her hands on her ears as the noise he just made was thunderous. While regaining her hearing, Electra yells at him.

"What were you trying to do, deafen me? And waht are you doing here in first place. Looks like you're trying to bring the place down."

She stood there with her hands on her hips waiting for his reply.

"Resonance frequency? Ah, I've heard about that branch of alchemy. I would be interested in meeting an alchemist with these..talents," he took note of her habit of always keeping her transmutation circle revealed. It added to her allure he thought to himself. No, idiot, he scolded himself. He decided to change the subject.

"The girl who damaged my shirt, what of her talents?"

Claudia frowned, setting the book upside down on the desk to save her page. "I'm not sure on her. She's a new student here, so I'll have to do a little research on her." She dropped her feet from the table, glaring at the librarian that passed. Claudia didn't care what the woman thought of her. The school meant nothing to her, just a place to assist Fenrir in his search.

"Let me see your shirt." She dragged the chair closer, leaning over his arm to inspect the burn, the corset of her dress giving a rather low view to her chest. "Hm. Looks like electrical fire, almost like lightning hit you. I can understand how that would cause havoc on your arm." She lightly clapped her hands together, resting them atop the fabric and allowing it to reform cleanly. The fabric was a bit thinner than usual now, but at least it left him with his usual clean look. "I know you don't care about that, but it was bothering me." She smirked at him, her hands till resting on the metallic arm. "No one should mar the appearance of the Dark Alchemist."

"With luck on our side, I believe we will have some fun with her later," he remarked coldly as she laid her hands on the damaged sleeve. It always felt strange when someone touched his automail arm. He knew she was touching his arm, but the sensations of her touch, her warmth even the feeling as her alchemy repaired his shirt. There was nothing the arm could do to translate these for him, but his shirt was mended at least.

"Thank you Claudia," he responded, his gaze transfixed on her chest, he always wondered to himself if she wore such attire for his sake. Out of all the alchemists in this school. When he wasn't perfecting his own studies, his attention was always on Claudia, her talents had grown since she was given a vial of his blood. He pictured what she looked like underneath that corset, upon that thought, a single tendril rose from the shadows underneath the table and slowly ran itself up the small of her back..

Getting tired of waiting for a response from the boy playing with sounds, thinks he might have caused his own hearing lose. So she screams at top of her lungs.

"HEY YOU SOUND BOY? CAN YOU HEAR ME? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE TRYING TO BRING THE ENTIRE PLACE DOWN. ARE YOU INSANE?"

Thinking to herself, if that doesn't get his attention I know what will. She starts to rub gloves together.

Deus was busy examining his own handiwork, muttering to himself about pitch, decibel level and echo.

"Obviously the acoustics in a real-life setting wouldn't yield these sorts of results, but if the echo and reverb effects could be predicted then the results could be duplicated."

Pacing around the shattered block with his hands on his hips, Deus finally remembered his manners and turned back to the girl.

"Hey I'm sorry about that, you walked in on a little experiment I was working on." Hooking his thumb at the rubble, he walked towards her and extended his hand.

"I'm Deus. Deus Colzmen. I've picked up the nickname Harmonic Alchemist around here"

Electra stares at him blankly for a moment.

"An exemeriment? Looks to me like mindless destruction, something I wouldn't mind at doing at the moment myself."

She thinks about shocking him with her charges hand, but decides not to cuase anymore trouble right now.

"Sorry I don't shake hands."

Electra quickly dispures the charge she builded up.

"And if you must know, my name is Electra. Don't need a stupid nickname, ironicly my name says it all. Tell me, how you get in here? Usually the front door is locked up."

Deus jaw almost dropped at her words. Was she really serious? Did she really think alchemy was ever to be used for "mindless destruction?" Alchemy was a science and science was meant to help people. Harmonic alchemy had purposes and applications all over the world and all she could see was the destructive nature.

A State Alchemist in the making. He thought to himself. The school is full of them.

"I'm working with resonance. Matter vibrates at specific frequencies, and if you can key in a matching resonant frequency then you get...well...that" He indicated to the small pile of debris behind him.

The sound of a single bell ringing boomed and rolled over the campus. Blinking in suprise, Deus snatched his jacket off the floor and started jogging towards the exit, calling over his shoulder, "Nice to meet you Electra, I'm sure I'll see more of you."

"Oh and by the way, your name is conicidental...not ironic" He could help but be the smart-ass.
