'Aliens could attack at any time' warns former MoD chief
By CHARLOTTE GILL

During his time as head of the Ministry of Defence UFO project, Nick Pope was persuaded into believing that other lifeforms may visit Earth and, more specifically, Britain.

His concern is that "highly credible" sightings are simply dismissed.

And he complains that the project he once ran is now "virtually closed" down, leaving the country "wide open" to aliens.

Mr Pope decided to speak out about his worries after resigning from his post at the Directorate of Defence Security at the MoD this week.

"The consequences of getting this one wrong could be huge," he said.

"If you reported a UFO sighting now, I am absolutely sure that you would just get back a standard letter telling you not to worry. ''Frankly we are wide open - if something does not behave like a conventional aircraft now, it will be ignored.

"The X-Files have been closed down." If these words had come from a sci-fi fanatic, they could be easily dismissed by cynics.

But Mr Pope's CV - he was head of the UFO project between 1991 and 1994 - cannot be ignored.

When he began his job, he too was sceptical about UFOs but access to classified files on the subject and investigation of a series of spectacular UFO sightings gradually changed his mind.

And while Mr Pope says that there is no evidence of hostile intent, he insists it cannot be ruled out.

"There has got to be the potential for that and one is left with the uneasy feeling that if it turned out to be so, there is very little we could do about it," he said.

"If you believe these things are extra terrestrial craft then you cannot rule out that what is happening is some kind of covert reconnaissance."

One incident which persuaded him of the existence of alien lifeforms was in 1993. There were reports of a "vast, triangular-shaped craft" spotted flying over RAF bases in the West Midlands.

"Most of the witnesses were police and military personnel," he said.

"Hundreds of members of the public also had sightings over a period of several hours."

In another incident in 1980 at RAF bases in Suffolk, staff investigated a suspected plane crash after bright lights were reported coming from nearby woods.

They found a kind of lunar landing module standing on three legs which then flew off. The indents it left in the ground were found to emit ten times the normal levels of radiation. Mr Pope said: "These sort of incidents are why I got so frustrated.

"In my time I would brief the more interesting sightings up the chain of command to people like the Chief of the Air Staff and would get the answer back that it was very interesting and I had clearly done a good job investigating it and that was it.

"Every one is a piece of a puzzle but no one takes it seriously. There needs to be more resources and people who are prepared to look past the philosophical issues, look at the reports and investigate them properly.

"Whether you believe these things are foreign air forces testing prototype aircraft or whether you believe they are something more exotic, with the speeds and movements they are capable of, it's technology we would very much like to get hold of."

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence insisted that all UFO sightings were investigated for "evidence to suggest that UK airspace has been compromised by hostile or unauthorised air activity."

She said: "Unless there is such evidence, the MoD doesn't attempt to positively identify what was seen."

Mr Pope is continuing his UFO research in a private capacity since leaving the MoD and is recognised as a leading authority on UFOs and the unexpected.

He has written four science fiction books drawing on his experience at the MoD, and lectures around the world on the subject.

He has appeared on BBC Newsnight and Radio 4's Today programme and has acted as consultant on numerous television documentaries.

Wouldnt worry bout it.

By the the time they get here, the world will be screwed anyway due to the inaction of those that dont believe global warming exists, or that our actions are having a detrimental and probably irreversible effect on the planets ability to sustain complex life forms.

If they do come, hopefully I will be able to hitchhike a lift off the planet and leave those who have no better idea that to wipe each other out in the name of religion.

Looks like a shoe-in for Presidential advisor.

LMAO. I saw this guy on BBC News24 last night. He actually sounds quite plausible and rational.

I think THESE aliens will attack you first

Britain's Growing Islamist Problem
The stunning public statement by Dame Eliza Manningham-Buller that Britain’s domestic intelligence agency MI5 is tracking some 200 Islamist cells with some 1,600 members who ā€œactively engaged in plotting or facilitating terrorist acts here and overseas.ā€ shows just how deeply the Islamist groups have burrowed into their host society.

ā€œToday we see the use of homemade improvised explosive devices, but I suggest tomorrow’s threat will include the use of chemicals, bacteriological agents, radioactive materials and even nuclear technology,ā€ Manningham-Buller said.
The scope and size of the publicly-acknowledged investigations are a tacit admission that the Blair government’s attempts at dialogue with the Muslim community, largely through Muslim Brotherhood-dominated groups that have sister organizations in the United States, has not stemmed the movement toward radicalism.

Indeed, one of the primary concerns is the concerted effort at radicalization of young people through mosques and networks that receive direction from al Qaeda-related groups in Pakistan. Other networks are the self-starting type of terrorist, loosely affiliated with others and inspired by al Qaeda but not members of the al Qaeda structure.

Britain has, for at least a generation, been the target of concerted political action by Islamist groups, including but not limited to the Muslim Brotherhood. There, these groups control mosques, monopolize the political represenation of Muslims and are an entrenched force advocating for separate rights and responsibilities for Muslims.

The network of mosques, charities and outreach workers to draw people, especially young people, has been not only tolerated but courted by politicians and largely left unexamined, until very recently, by law enforcement and intelligence forces.

The situation, while far less developed in the United States, where there are no post-colonial ties to Pakistan and other regions, is not so dissimilar. The organized efforts here by the Ikwan and its multiple, massively-funded front organizations and allies, have taken root on college campuses, control of mosques and the political representation of Muslims in this country.

Like the Blair government the Bush administration continues to reach out to these groups as represenative and moderate. Both governments are sadly mistaken.

The concern is long-term. As Manningham-Buller said the threat from international terrorism ā€œis serious, is growing, and will, I believe, be with us for a generation.ā€ Leaving unchallenged the agenda of Islamist groups that present a moderate face when it necessary but have a separate agenda, is part of that threat.

This has been all over the news here all day. I'm more inclined to take her seriously than a pol, but bear in mind how accurate our intelligence services have been in the past. Plus, she's after a bigger budget.

sometime

you and the other nay sayers

have to admit

we all, not just you, not just me, but we all face a dangerous COMMON enemy

it has NOTHING to do with a bigger budget, politics or anything other then a DIRECT THREAT THREAT

from Islam and Muslims!

The OBVIOUS fact that YOU have so many Muslims and they are only looking at 1600 makes one wonder

WHY ARE THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF OTHER MUSLIMS NOT ABLE TO MARGINALIZE THE 1600?

I've always admitted there were Muslim extremist terrorists, BB. I just disagree with your "kill em all" solution. And the radio has been full of moderate Muslims all day saying they hate these fuckers as much as anyone. Engagement with the Muslim community is the only way to catch them, as EMG said in her speech.
Why didn't all the Catholics in the world marginalise the IRA?

Lawyers ā€˜can wear veils in court’

Friday, 10 November 2006

Legal advisers and solicitors may wear the Islamic veil in court unless it interferes with the "interests of justice", judges have been told.

The judiciary were told to use their discretion to interpret the temporary guidance, which covers all courts.

The advice was issued by immigration tribunals chief Mr Justice Hodge after a case had to be halted when a legal adviser refused to remove her veil.

The Lord Chief Justice said full rules on the veils issue were being drawn up.

Earlier this week it emerged legal adviser Shabnam Mughal had refused to remove her headwear during an immigration tribunal in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

She had been asked to do so by Judge George Glossop, who said he could not hear her properly.

Eventually Judge Glossop adjourned the hearing to seek advice from president of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal (AIT) Mr Justice Hodge.

It is understood the hearing will now go ahead next week with a different judge presiding…

The guidance applies to all courts.

Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers said he had asked the equal treatment advisory committee of the Judicial Studies Board to develop detailed guidance on the use of veils by all people involved in court cases - including the parties, legal representatives, witnesses, jurors and magistrates.

Who knew that the "immigration tribunals chief" was so all powerful?

And note that the judge who had the temerity to ask her to remove her veil because he could not hear what she was saying has been, er, replaced.

Won’t it be great when witnesses get to wear them, too? And judtges? So much for having an "open court."

Alas, the West blithely skips another step closer to our dhimmitude.

The AIT chief is a senior judge.
You got a link for that? I thought I would have heard. I know a lot of people in that field.

Of course KILL EM ALL doesnt work

On the other hand

"engagement" doesnt seem to either be working

Though I do realize its a LONG TERM process

OTOH

Our version of LONG TERM is a year, maybe 2-3, maybe 5

The Muslims can wait DECADES and CENTURIES

as their statements regarding Spain and the Crusades show clearly

therefore a more immediate solution needs to be found

I'm agreeing that she should have had to take off the veil, you loon. Just as I agree with the sacking of the teaching assistant that rewfused to remove hers in class.
