The article is from The Conservative Voice, whose very existence is an insult to conservatives.

The statements are so outrageous that one wonders whether the site is actual a very clever satire. Unfortunately, it appears to be very real.

http://www.theconservativevoice.com/article/33469.html

"Former Apollo 14 astronaut, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, has recently made it public knowledge that aliens exist and that NASA officials have had contact with them. Dr. Mitchell says that there has been a sixty-year cover-up by our government of the existence and reality of aliens.

No doubt, all this will be used to support evolution and discredit the Bible...

Then, how do we explain aliens if they are for real? The Bible teaches that Satan and his demons (the fallen angels) can take on take all sorts of shapes and perform all sorts of miracles in order to deceive mankind. In fact, some who have been claimed to be abducted by aliens say that these aliens have told them things that undermine the truth of the Christian Scriptures and the Person and work of Jesus Christ."

It's really just hard to argue with any of this at all.
First we have astronaut Mitchell going on record stating that aliens are real and the US government has been covering up their existence. Remember this is a guy who also claimed that a teenager in Canada healed him remotely from Vancouver and cleared up his kidney cancer.

And then leave it to the right wing fundamentalists to jump on this and dispute it. Not because the idea of aliens walking around the planet is difficult to swallow. Not because it flies in the face of Old Testament theology that God made man in His image and gave man dominion over the Earth. No, no. Because aliens somehow prove that evolution is real.

So, to add to the Freak Spiral, let's spin in some Satan's Minions.

ties into Rosco Apocalypse thread of a few days ago...

True. Maybe the New York freaks Rosco saw were from the morbid halls of Hades.

Without further data from Mr. Rathbone, I would have to stay my opinion, but am leaning towards agreeing with you.

that gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Fundamentalists always creep me out.
The one thing about Satan's servants, they'll never corner you at a neighbourhood barbecue and say earnestly "I'd like to talk to you about Jesus Christ."

Unless they're gossipping.

*laughing*

It's really brilliant spin. They're covering all their bases. If aliens are real, they're just Satan's minions, just like if carbon dating is real, those are fossils put there by God to test your faith.

But the bible mentions the "nephilim".

Genesis Chapter 6, verses 1 through 4 describe the origin of the Nephilim:
"Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

The bible is probably right. Except back then they disn't know about astronomy and other planets so thought everything were "spirits or angels or demons from Heaven". (Or hell)

You read a lot of Von Daneken, right?

I've read a bit of his stuff.

I really like Zecharia Sitchin, too.

:D

But, they could all be wrong, maybe life on earth was seeded by something much simpler, a comet or meteorite?

http://www.universetoday.com/2008/04/06/did-a-cooked-meteorite-seed-life-on-earth/

Yeah, maybe. I'm not ruling anything out.

For the record, the correct answer to this question, especially when asked by a Peruvian, is: "I'm not a fan of his work."

Ha! Nice, Equi, but it's ok. My dad's a huge Von Danaken fan. He's a very intelligent man, just has a thing for UFOs. We had a lot of spiritied discussions over it. I even took a course in college when I was an anthro major for a couple semesters on debunking people like Von Danaken, but I didn't have the heart to tell my dad.

Anthropologists can't really figure out how ancients made some of the artifacts found recently.

This thing comes to mind:

The technology appears to be far ahead of anything known at the time it was made?

Sure, I skimmed through your link, and I don't have an explanation either, but what bothers a lot of antrhopologists about this kind of thing is the racist overtones.

For example, the antrhopomorphic stones in Easter Island. Lots of people say aliens must have put them there, same as the Sphinx or the Great Pyramids in Giza, but why? Why couldn't those peoples have had the skill and wherewithall to erect those? Does the progression of technology have to be linnear or teeleological? Just because we don't understand it or can't reconstruct it doesn't mean it was aliens.

Oh, I agree with that. No proof, either way. Same thing with the Nazca lines, and the old Mayan temples. COULD the Indians have had some type of flying device to make te nazca lines? Maybe.

How did the Mayans carve their temple stones with laser precision and line them up so accurately with stars and come up with their calendar that is actually better than the one we use today?

Anything is possible. "Aliens" could even be a "secret race" of humans living somewhere on Earth.

:D

Yeah, or it could even be those Nazca or Maya Indians. There should be a term for this line of thinking, like ethnocentric, but in reference to looking back at past civilizations, like chronocentric or something. Where's Equinoxe?

Atlantis, anyone?

:D

Still, I always wonder about the Great Pyramid. IF the Phahroes went to all that trouble using thousands of slaves , etc, why not finish the thing and place a capstone?
