ON HOLD -- My lap top died. Getting it fixed.
Alien Invasion: Seeking story writers, not role players
I will write more later, but I have to get to work now.
PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR INTEREST HERE UNTIL I HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO PROOFREAD THE ABOVE AND MADE THE APPROPRIATE CORRECTIONS. I was in a hurry when I created this. I will remove this last note when we are ready for replies and shows of interest. Thank you.
Alien Invasion: Seeking story writers, not role players
- The Story:
- An alien invasion of Earth has begun.
- Your character must deal with it as appropriate per his or her nature.
- Be a nation's President or General.
- Be a neighborhood's drug addict or loving gramma.
- Choose to be powerful or meek, I don't care.
- This isn't a story about having power or achieving great victories.
- It's about surviving as best you can with what you have and who you are.
- (Keep in mind that drawing attention from the aliens by being in control of a massive army supposedly operating safely from within its underground bunker might not be as safe and secure as hiding out alone in a single wide trailer house exposed in a white trash neighborhood. Then again, considering looters and such, the latter might not be very safe either. Let's find out.
- I can't tell you what will happen to you, your neighborhood, or your planet at this time.
- I can tell you that there will be pain and despair.
- But ... things will get better ... if you survive, I mean.
- Timeline: Role Play (RP) vs. Real Life (RL)
- Because the holiday season is approaching and I know people are busy, I am going to conduct the Timeline in two very different Phases:
- Phase One:
- The story will begin at the RP date of 1 December 2016 on 1 December 2016.
- The story will proceed at a pace of 1 RP week per RL week until the end of January (or another date yet to be determined if I feel we need to slow or speed up the story).
- Writers are expected to post as described below.
- Phase Two:
- The story will proceed at a pace of 1 RP month per RL week.
- Writers are expected to post as described below.
- Phase One:
- I will maintain a Timeline and Calendar of Events page:
- To help you keep the advancing calendar straight in your mind.
- And record a synopsis of the major events, both in the world and in the lives of each character.
- Because the holiday season is approaching and I know people are busy, I am going to conduct the Timeline in two very different Phases:
- Writer's Expectations:
- Phase One: Writers are expected to post for that RP week during that RL week.
- Phase Two: Writers are expected to post for that RP month during that RL week.
- I would prefer that that RP week's/month's worth of RP life comes in 1 to 3 posts; be less than a billion words; and be worth reading.
- No one's going to follow your character's story if it is too long or simply rambling along without any value.
- That includes me. If you want me to respond to your character, do your part to keep me, the other writers, and the potential readers involved in your character's life.
- NO ONE is looking for best seller quality work. We only want to get to the end of your reply and say to ourselves, "I'm glad I read that."
- Writers are expected to perform spelling, grammar, and punctuation checks. Mistakes will be made. Hell, I make plenty of them. (There are likely mistakes in this very post.) But checks will be made, too.
- Hostess's Expectations:
- My part in all of this is not to directly role play with each character.
- What I will instead do is:
- Post general occurrences and results to the main thread that affect most if not all of the characters.
- Send occurrences and results in private messages that affect only a specific character.
- I will read each and every reply and respond appropriately. If you're not taking this serious or working outside of the general spirit of the story, I will stop reading you.
- Here's my biggest contribution: Just as with a D&D like RP, I will give results to your character's actions, leading them toward their next post and the next phase/actions in their life; and, for those writers who take this seriously -- whether their character is thriving or barely hanging on -- there will be rewards.
I will write more later, but I have to get to work now.
