Alex Trebek has died

God, it's always the good ones!

May he rest in peace, he will be missed! :( He was a great-looking 80!

Jeopardy is nothing without him!

Why did he have to sell shit insurance to the old people?
:(

He must not have had enough money.

"He was the greatest ever to do it with a record covering 35 years of excellence in television."

"Who is Alex Trebek"

:rose:

Bars here would play Jeopardy during the weekdays like a religion at 7 pm on their tellys. Fun times screaming answers to the questions at the screens before the contestants did. Lots of times you learned things you never knew.

Yeah, I dunno who can fill those shoes, he pretty much icon'd that show. Gonna miss you, Alex. Rest good.

One of the shows where you could actually learn something instead of being made dumber. LOVED to watch it, always learned something.

“My job,” he told the Associated Press in 2012, “is to provide the atmosphere and assistance to the contestants to get them to perform at their very best. And if I’m successful doing that, I will be perceived as a nice guy and the audience will think of me as being a bit of a star. But not if I try to steal the limelight! The stars of ‘Jeopardy!’ are the material and the contestants.”

What a class guy, all the way around.

I don't know of anyone who didn't find him admirable.

I'm curious about the fate of Jeopardy. The format is unassailable, but Trebek had been there so long I'm not sure if he can be replaced, even with Ken Jennings.

If it's Ken Jennings, and there's every reason to believe it will be, I think it will continue without a hiccup. That's almost a seamless transition and the game show has succeeded on content as much as host personality.

Some details now in print about the last six months of his life....evidently he died a very painful and horrible death. He often thought about suicide but didn't want to disappoint his fans. He cried after chemo treatments...which bothered him immensely because he was taught that grown men don't cry. And he lost all of his hair after his first round of chemo and wore a Hollywood-quality wig his final year on Earth.

He wanted his legacy to be one of dying with dignity....and to his adoring public, he did.
