Okay, so I finally fucked up.

More like I got fucked up, and was dumb enough to drive home. I didn't hurt myself, or anyone else. I just saw some flashing lights and stayed the night in a cheap motel.

That said, I've been given a new task: A court administered assessment to determine if i have a drinking problem.

My question:

Does anyone have any previous experience with this sort of thing? I just want to know what to expect in the said assessment.

Thanx in advance,

I have no idea, sorry love but *hugs* it's good to see you. I'm so glad you didn't get hurt or hurt anyone -we all fuck up sometimes and *puts on stern face* I hope you've learnt your lesson.

I have past experience with drinking problems, but it never found it's way to a court. All I can do is wish you good luck.

My brother did. He said they basically made him go to a counseling session, asked him some questions made him fill out a little form. He had to do that or go to jail. Well he passed, had to take a basic driving course (if it was related, I don't know if that was two separate incidences..) and that was it.

I think they'll ask you about your history and current drinking patterns. Maybe eve give you this:

MAST

Good luck.

Sorry but I'm the wrong person to ask about this. I was put into the hospital at the age of 16 by a drunk driver. (Spent 182 days in Mass. General)

I scored a 2, but I I'm not sure if i answered one correctly, so 3 tops. Hopefully, that's the kind of thing they do.

Truth be told, no. But I get bored easily (maybe I should take that ADHD test on the link jomar left, eh?) and I like to shoot pool. In this area, those type games are in bars, so i do drink a fair amount. I don't get trashed every day, but drinking is drinking.

As far as I think, definitely not (especially given that I haven't had anything since Tuesday and it doesn't bother me in the slightest bit (save for the alcohol having a positive effect on my onset insomnia issue, which is becoming a problem again). My concern isn't actually having a problem, it's them thinking I do. I have special circumstances in terms of the outcome of this assessment; I pass it's good, I fail it isn't so good.

There are drinking problems and then there are drinking *problems*.

IMHO: If you got behind the wheel of a car when you could feel the effect of alcohol in your system, you do in fact have a drinking problem. It may be a small one or a big one, but driving while you are buzzed - even once - is a problem.

The reason it is a problem is that your judgement of your own ability is impaired by alcohol. If you think you are a little tipsy, it is likely that you are more impaired than you realize.

You might not fall asleep at the wheel, but if you are faced with an emergency situation, your reaction time and balance might be just enough impaired that you are unable to drive your way out of it.

Alcohol screws up your ability to deal with the idiots on the road who appear in your lane out of nowhere.

Having said that, this doesn't necessarily mean that you are an alcoholic. That's a whole nother question.
