Al-Jazz Interviews Paul Bremmer

The disenfranchisement of Ba'athist Party members was a huge mistake. Many joined to get ahead in life. After WW2 many Nazi party members got jobs in government. That helped Germany recover a lot. Shame an American success story was not remembered and copied.

Bremmer tried to be a MacArthur. But even MacArthur left the Emperor in power.

They must have paid him a lot of money to be interviewed.

MacArthur wasn't taking specific orders from anybody, he was being the emperor his father had been in the Philippines. He understood that if he deposed the Emperor that the society would be shattered and he'd have responsibility for trying to manage all the assholes who saw a chance to be the Big Cheese. By leaving the Emperor in place the assholes were constrained by the old order.

Bremmer did take specific orders from the Dark Lords (Cheney and the Neo-Cons I'll bet) who weren't concerned about anything but the oil and the power.

I'll bet Bremmer wanted to 'confront the issues' to clear his name. Maybe they paid him a bit, airfare, travel expenses and the like.
