used my address to sign me up for religious junk mail from multiple companies in the US...

I'd like to tell you to burn in hell this Christmas. My mailbox has been full of religious bullshit stuff for days now.

I start the Christmas card thread as a way to bring some cheer into people's lives. I gave my address to a select few people as a way of expressing good faith, friendship, and Christmas cheer... and now I'm having to follow up with various religious companies to tell them to remove me from mailing lists.

Fuck you.

No more Christmas card threads. No more secret santas.

Last year, probably about 12.

Of course, it's the internet, and people are fucking gomers, so let's estimate that everyone shared it... because I have NO fucking faith in people right now.

Yeah. The whole viral nature of the 'net is shitty, but that's also it's saving grace for people who use that for business.

Having ghost and beard emails to use separate from your "real" one is a good practice for these things. It's a pain in the ass to have multiple addys, but...

I was talking with a friend today who's pagan and was having to explain to her 8 year old son that she's and his daddy are NOT going to burn in hell because they're satanists (a school friend's mom gave him a pamphlet on the evil origins of Halloween and what happens people if they're not Christians)...

It sucks that they did this to you, I'm so sorry...

I haven't shared my address with anyone new, and I still get a flood of "begging letters." It may be that a company sold your name and address. It's entirely possible. I always get a chuckle when a new begging letter arrives with my middle initial incorrect because I know who started that little typo.

It still sucks, but it may not have been one of your "friends" who is responsble.

In all seriousness though, is it possible that it has something to do with the season? I get some ridiculous amount of junkmail. Especially if you've subscribed to any magazines lately, that could have done it. I think I started getting "Parents" like two years ago, and I went from getting only pertinent mail to getting all sorts of crap-o-la.
