Age restrictions

This is not a matter of any great importance, but I've been jacking around with this novella of mine and I had a question about age restrictions. Above and beyond the obvious restriction on underage sex, I'm wondering where exactly that line gets drawn. Is it acceptible to have a sex scene visualized through the perspective of a 17 year-old central character as long as that individual is in no way a part of the action? I'm trying to find some way to make this a non-issue, but plot and format concerns have led me to this as a possibility. Of course, I don't want to break the rules, but as all of the involved characters are central to the story's plot, at the moment I can't think of anything else to do. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks.

My opinion doesn't count.

I'm afraid the decision is Laurel's. I'm way too inclusive when it comes to what's acceptable--which is most things as long as the reader and the characters are 100% consensual. But That's just me.

That could be construed as the 17 yo "participating" as a voyeur. Of course, a lot depends on the specifics of the scene. I don't think you'd get too much flak about an "OMG Mom and Dad are fucking" reaction in a flashback, but you would have if the teen stays and describes every thrust and groan.

Hey, thanks for the advice, guys. WH, I think you're right--in the context I would have to apply it, it would probably be construed as voyeurism, so that's not an option. I don't want to post elsewhere because it's a longish story that really belongs in a novel/novella category so as to not annoy people who are expecting instant gratification. Plus I just like this site. Anyway, though, I think I've come up with a way to make it work without riding the line of underage sex, so it's all good. Thanks again for the help, though.

I am also having problems trying to re-write a story that had/has several 'flash back/confession' segments. It was originaly a highschool kids get caught by mother plot. No problem with up ageing to Jr colege, but several largish passages have to remain in teen/preteen time frame.
