in tune with his directive last year restricting communications between the DOJ and the White House in order to keep these two bodies of gov't separate, AG Garland has this to say:
The separation is vital to prevent presidential interference and, even more importantly now trump's out of office, the need to reestablish faith in the DOJ as a gov't body.
in tune with his directive last year restricting communications between the DOJ and the White House in order to keep these two bodies of gov't separate, AG Garland has this to say:
"Although longstanding Department policy has permitted non-career appointees to attend partisan political events... in their personal capacities if they participated passively and obtained prior approval, under the new policy, non-career appointees may not participate in any partisan political event in any capacity."
Will there be a push-back by trump-invested employees? no doubt. Should they feel the need to leave their jobs, good fucking riddance."I know you agree it is critical that we hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards to avoid even the appearance of political influence as we carry out the Department's mission. It is in that spirit that I have added these new restrictions on political activities by non-career employees."
Garland's directive represents a break from long-standing department policy and a strict interpretation of the Hatch Act, which limits federal government employees' political participation to guard against conflicts of interest.
