Trump is rockin' the federal court system, putting real Americans back on the bench. He's nominated and placed one fourth of the federal judiciary according to one report. He should be able to get two more SCOTUS justices before he done as well.
Aside from an effort to tar Senators as Trump sycophants in a long, drawn-out trial over the thinnest of charges, the point was to interference with Republican efficiency in the Senate from capitalizing on Harry Reid's folly.
Dispensing with the impeachment trial (which was always a foregone conclusion) sooner rather than later resulted in exactly the same amount of (or possibly less) damage as would have happened in a needlessly protracted one, while letting the Senate get back to regular order quickly.
