Jake Hanson turned on the water and cupped his hands under the running water. He let them fill up and then he bent his face down lower and threw the water onto his face. He stood up straight and looked at himself in the mirror. At 28 most people would think that he had already made a major success of his life by turning his pipe dream into a fortune 500 company. He wiped his hands over his face to remove the excess water.
"What are you doing?" he said out loud.
He took a comb from his pocket and straightened out his jet black hair that was combed straight back.
He looked down at the ring on his left ring finger. He turned it in circles around his finger.
BEEP BEEP BEEP his pager began to sound.
He looked down at the number...it was his wife.
"God, I just want this to be over!" he said aloud again.
He stepped out of his private bathroom back into his office that sat on the 21st floor of his highrise office building.
His wife gave him notice two months ago that she was filing for divorce. Five years, and one daughter. Linda said it was because of his job. She was probably right...Jake was a typical work-a-holic. They stopped having sex a year ago.
He had remained faithful and not gone outside of his marriage, though he had been tempted too several times.
"Mary, has my lawyer called back yet" he said into his speakerphone.
"No sir, nothing yet" she replied in her sweet voice.
"Mr. Hanson...it's 5:30 I'm heading out the door is there anything you need from me before I go?" she asked again pleasantly
Jake sat there in silence. A thought crossed his mind about what he wanted her to do, but the gentleman inside quickly dismissed it.
He looked up at the phone to respond to her but somehow between the time she called and now she had made her way into the office and was standing in front of his desk.
"You look tired sir, are you sure I can't do anything for you?" she asked coyly.
"Well what did you have in mind??" he asked...
