I really couldn't tell you how often it happens. But Laurel seems to flag stories when it apears that there are a number of spelling and/or grammatical errors.
I suggest running your text through a good spell checker and letting another author read over the story for errors before submitting it. It will greatly reduce the chance of your submission getting rejected because of grammatical problems.

You can also check out the Editor's forum if you're in need of editing assistance. There are volunteer editors who can help, and a lot of general editing questions are answered over there.
