Ok, so I have a lot of a M/M story fleshed out in my head. Some of the conflicts that will occur, some ideas for the ending and I've even got ideas to bring in some other relationships as subplots, since they would form as the story went on. The thing is though, I'm really not sure where to start. I would love to do something along the lines of an explosive encounter, maybe a love/maniacal lust at first sight (similar to the author adjoaq. I love those stories, especially the m/m ones). However, without giving too much away, one of the main characters is incredibly shy relationship-wise, and almost anything physically sexual - due various childhood experiences - is terrifying to even think of, at least at the start. So in that sense, I kinda thinking that a slow and steady type relationship would be better, if a little less boring(maybe). Either way, I cant help but think that the two starts contradict each other, and that i have to pick one or the other. I simply cant think of a way to combine the two, if that's possible.........Thank you.

How about a start where the shy guy's guard is down temporarily, due to the lingering effects of anesthesia from a medical procedure or him accidentally ingesting a psychotropic drug at a party, and then he gets swept off his feet by a caring and sensual partner? Then, he could go into his whole guilt/shame/confusion state and spend most of the plot finding his way back to that caring and sensual partner.

The best of both worlds (and easy): An explosive start, followed by a flashback to the slow, gradual backstory, then flashforward to more hot action, etc. Like (schematically):

Maybe put the two together on a team, have them become friends and build up trust to help the shy one get over his physical phobia.
