I know alot of my stories are not the same caliber of true authors. I consider this a passing hobby that I enjoy doing to relax. Truly I enjoy all the feedback I get whether in the form of e-mails or in the comments section. I take the comments from readers and try to improve. From what I gather some people enjoy, some are amused, some don't like. Today I actually got one that told me to eat shit and die. I was just curious on how other writers deal with e-mails or comments that are that extremely negative?'

Thank you thehumpman

It's still winter.

Use them to light the fire.

Keep writing, and welcome to the AH.

edit: Post a link to your stories here so that we can find them easily.

Hello and welcome :)

Horrid personal comments are nasty but you shouldn't take the buggers to heart. they are a reflection on the commenter not you.

Ignore it, move on and above all as neon said, keep writing.

*shrug* Those are the ones that remind us all why we use pennames. Since most of them are written by old anonymous just click "delete".

EL...I PROMISE....I am NOT chasing you around the boards. Just because I enjoy the view doesn't mean that I lust ...I'm shutting up now before you don't let me back in our other thread.

It's ok...*chuckles* if you've seen the flirt thread i really don't mind it and you're a very nice stalker when all is said and done ;)

Negative comments that are centered on the work, ie your grammar, choice of words, or some other aspect of the work should be studied. We learn more from our mistakes than out triumphs. Negative comments that are on a personal level should just be ignored. Anyone can spew vitriol, itt akes no skill. Those who do, are, IMHO, generally the kind who hate themselves for getting off and so target the author for putting such evil before them:rolleyes:

Joking aside, put the bad ones out of your mind, their intent is to twound and make you question your writing for reasons unconnnected with your skil or ability.

'True authors' and all sorts of authors get negative feedback as well. For a 'real' author the ultimate feedback is sales.

As this is a free site, those who don't like the story can't refuse to buy. They can send unpleasant feedback.

Some of them send unpleasant feedback to anybody for no reason at all.

Just ignore the unpleasant stuff. You can learn from some of the negative feedback if it is specific. 'I didn't like this story because...' might be helpful. 'Eat shit and die' is not.

Og one of whose recent stories was described by anonymous as 'very cute'. Ugh!

I am with Colly herer. If a comment, no matter how nasty, contains useful criticism, learn from it.

If a comment contains only a (usually personal) attack, delete it and then ignore it.

Thank you all. Constructive critism I do take to heart and try to improve to please the reader. I find most of the the critism comes from people who are literotica members yet have no stories posted themselves.

Thanks again.

The ones who sent ridiculous (and usually mispelled) personal insults, invective, and venom remind me chiefly of six-year-olds who've just learned a few curse words. They go around singing pointless songs with swears that they don't understand and enjoy trying to shock people with their new accomplishment. It's a silly thing but harmless enough; I just delete them.

Quite true.

Here is a link to your stories. I notice some of them are from 2001 - you've been here for awhile, yes?

And some of them have H's by them. Hang in there, you're doing fine.

Now BS, please do not insult my 6-year-old son.

His vocabulary is much more advanced than most of the venom spewed by idiot and anonymous feedback senders.

Please do forgive me. I should have said "those particularly foolish six year olds," not to be confused with the clever and accomplished progeny of SSS. :)

I print off the postitive feedback remarks and put them in a file folder. I use the constructive remarks (if there are any) to review what I've written, and I delete the negative bullshit ones. Lit is a hot bed of people who don't like you, or your work for whatever reason. If they can't take the time to sent constructive feedback, then I don't have to consider their comments as valid. I keep the positive remarks and reread them when I get one of those fucked up little missives, because it helps me remember that there were people out there that liked what I did. Quite a lot of them, in fact.

Well, if I were you, I should be extremely careful when engaging in coprophagia. While very enjoyable between consenting adults, it can have unpleasant side effects if done wrong, particularly if you forget you've done it and then smile during a job interview.

Thanks joe. There's an image I really needed bouncing around in my mind first thing in the morning.

Does give new meaning to "shit eating grin" though.
