Has anybody tried those 'cramp' tea's? Do they work? My cramps seem to be getting worse each month as I get older. The pill is not an option for me...they all make me sick even after several months.

It feels like someone is trying to wring my uterus out.

Suggestions???

Hmmm...

Tea for cramps?

I don't know if you're talking about what I'm talking about but, I was told by my doctor to drink Ginger Tea (I get very severe menstrual cramps). She swears by it. Although I'm not sure how well it works cause I never do it, Ginger Tea is foul.

ThermaCare heating pads. They're small and attach to your clothing and stay hot for 8-10 hours. They are THE BEST thing.

Good luck!

Raspberry Leaf tea does the trick for me and a hot water bottle, I like the hot water bottle better then a heating pad because it seems to conform to the body better.

Good suggestions. Thank you. There is a limit to how many midol one can take in a 24 hour period and sometimes it just isn't enough to stop the pain. yeesh.

Have you been to the gyno with this problem yet PB?

The only advice I have, that worked for me, is to take the Midol at the very first twinge of pain. Before that twinge if possible.

Hope they get better for you.

Yes, I have. Nothing is physically wrong...everything is as it should be. The suggestion was for birth control pills but they play havoc on my system..even the newest one which is supposed to be the lowest dose yet.

I was hoping others had home remedies...cramps I'm sure have been happening for centuries. uck! I know some are reminded of their womanhood when they get their periods and it makes them feel more alive....I on the other hand, want lots of pain medication and a shower. :D

My cramp remedy consists of the hot water bottle and large amounts of cannabis.

MellonCollie, have you tried making your own ginger tea instead of using the pre-made teabags (which do taste hideous, indeed)? All you do is grate your gingerroot finely, put it in a tea-ball and pour boiling water over it. Let steep, add some honey and you're good to go. It really has a totally different taste than the pre-made stuff. It's not only palatable, it's even yummy.

I hope that you were checked for endometriosis, if not, you should look into that.
If you consume a lot of caffeine, it could be making things worse for you because caffeine exaserpates pain. Women are always more sensitive to any kind of pain while having their period, so you may want to lay low the first day or so and not do anything too strenuous. I am not sure about the tea, but I'm a believer in herbal remedies, so it can't hurt to try it. I would imagine that sitting down to a decaffeinated cup of tea would in itself be soothing and calming, thus making you a little more comfortable.

I hope this was some help to you and that you're feeling better soon. :rose:

Re: Codiene

Codeine is not available over-the-counter in the states. I wish it was.... It's nice.

I dunno if ginger tea works for cramps or not-- I just like the way it tastes.

Eh, to each her own....

Lots and lots of codiene.

Generic tylenol one is sold over the counter and is chalked full of codiene.

If you are not into pills, try a tea made of valarian root and reaspberry leaves

Ginger tea is a myth.

Since when? Codeine is a controlled substance. If it is being sold over the counter now, a lot of women will have the relief needed from these cramps.

My wife had terrible cramps, and had 2 week long periods. The hot water bottle, Tylenol 3 w/ Codeine and hot drinks did a lot to help her. She ended up having a partial hysterectomy because things got too severe.

Sweetie, unfortunately codeine isn't available over the counter in the US. :( However, if you're into shipping and................

Good advice. After being treated twice for endometriosis, my wife had her hysterectomy. Many things can aggravate endometriosis. In my wife's case, it was because of her strenuous physical activity.

** Didn't mean to invade this thread. Was just offering what little I knew was helpful because I delt with this with my wife for over 5 years.

Tylenol 3 has codeine in it but it has to be prescribed by a doctor.

I used to have the worst cramps till I got on the Pill. Smooth sailing ever since. :)

I never had cramps till after I got off of the pill. I just had a baby and havent had a period yet so I don't know if I have them now.
