My Master and I do as much as possible by phone. I call him first thing in the morning to present myself and throughout the day, if he needs my service, he calls and lets me know. As far as sex -- my Master is not into cyber, but about every three weeks or so, as long as I am good, he allows me to cum for him.

There are as many ways to be an online sub as there are people, opinions and assholes. In my experience it's fairly easy for a woman to find an online "master" but I don't know if the same can be said of a man.
My feeling is that there are more Dommes trying to make money off of men and less Dommes in general but I don't know if my impression is the reality.
You as a sub can decide what your hard limits are. These may include paying for being a sub, doing web cam or any pictures or anything else you simply would not, could not, do and at the same time still like yourself or protect your job, family and standing in your community.

You could pop into the Distance Domination Support thread. They are a friendly bunch in there and some are in ldrs and others in online based relationships. I am sure they would have a lot of good advice to offer.
I started out in an LDR with my PYL and there are loads of ways to serve without camming. There's a huge spectrum of tasks that can be set, whether its writing something or pics, or a specific task. Lol I remember in the early days being sent out shopping in a low cut top with his name written in red across my breasts. For us, this was done for a specific reason...but there are lots of tasks that can set. It just depends upon the PYLs imagination and them knowing what makes themselves and you tick.

I'm new to this
I'm new to the whole online sub thing. I was R/L for a while. It's been about 3 weeks for me and I am enjoying myself. My Daddy and I have done emails so far. He's suggested chatting, but we haven't done it yet. I'm looking forward to it though.
I'm a little apprehensive about web cams and photos. I would have to be in a long term online relationship before I decided to send photos or web cam. My Daddy has asked for pictures of me fully clothed, but he hasn't demanded them. He understands my position. If I were to submit photos it would have to be mutual and we would be at the phase where we are discussing the possibility of meeting face to face.
I think it's important for an online sub and their DOM to be compatible, as funny as that may seem. I think you have to almost lead the same kind of life in order for it to work. Your DOM should understand why it may not be in your best interest for you to go to work without a bra with your nipples blazing through your white blouse for everyone to see.
Just have fun with it and don't do anything that makes you feel absolutely uncomfortable. As subs we're use to a little discomfort, but you know your limits and if you don't you will discover them very soon.

I think it is completely possible to be an online sub to a Domme without a webcam or pictures. It is completely up to you and your Domme really. I know that my slave does send me pics of specific things I have asked him to do but that is because he is comfortable with it; I do not demand it of him and I never would if he was uncomfortable with it. Sometimes RL just doesn't allow for things such as that.
As for the sub side of me; pictures and webcams naked are a no no. First, I live in a house with not only my husband and my son but my father and my in laws (yes the house is crowded) and on top of that I keep my 3 nieces during the day when people work so cams are out of the question and I believe in no evidence in the way of pictures. No matter how much i trues someone i don't trust them enough to NOT post pics somewhere unsavory if they were ever to get angry with me or simply because they wanted to do that. Plus, with my chosen profession of counseling all I would need is for someone to find such pics wherever they might be posted and then i have lost my creditbility.
