I wish to go on a Caribbean Vaction for the first time with my wife (of 8yrs).
I want to have fun and frolic in the way it should be intended with couples and adults. Maybe some nude sunbathing, enjoying each other and other couples. Maybe try and catch one of those Corona commercial lazy day at the beach moments. We could all use one of those.
Can somebody give me some of your experiences,
places to go
and what I should expect in prices(<~cheesy question for a vacation $ , but you need to know so you want get ripped off, don't you?) ?

Licks and giggles:cool:

Ah, the Carribean is a wonderful place to spark romance! Wherever you decide to go I'm sure you'll have a terrific time.

I've been there a couple of times, and while I'm certainly not an expert, I can give you my thoughts and opinions.

1. Stay away from Cancun! Avoid it like the plague! 15 - 20 years ago it was the perfect place, but it has since been overrun with, well, tourists and college kids looking to get drunk and laid.

2. If nude bathing is high on your list then you will want to investigate those islands that have a French background. Martinique is one that allows topless bathing that I'm sure of. Jamaica does have Hedonism II that allows for total nude bathing, but it is an all-inclusive resort. If you like that sort of thing then this might be for you. If you prefer to experience more of the island, then you might want to look elsewhere.

3. It might do you well to "bone up" on some of the islands. Each has their own individual flavor. Plus, it depends on any other activities you want to engage in. Diving? Then you would want to head to the Cayman islands. That sort of thing.

There are so many islands to choose from, but I would favor going to a place that is a little less well-known and visited. But that's a personal thing. Example: I would prefer Barbados over Jamaica, or bypass the Virgin Islands for St Lucia. But then, I prefer to really try to "get away from it all" when I'm in the Carribean. It really depends on what you like to do and what you expect. Fellow tourists not a problem for you? Then go to a more familiar desitination. Like to be more on your own? Then select an island that has less tourist traffic.

And don't forget those little islands off the coast of Central/South America. Never been, but I've heard Aruba is wonderful. Seychelles also receives high reviews.

Time of year is also important. May/June is typically the most humid. Great if one is on the beach or in the water, but not always so nice if one wants to stroll around shopping. July and August are hot, hot, HOT! Temps easily go into the 90s and there is always high humidity. Of course, the windward islands farther south provide a little break from that with the breezes. August is sketchy - it's the start of hurricane season, but you can do well if it's early August. (still HOT!) September - November is when you will receive the best rates because it is full on hurricane season. December through April is the high season and most expensive.

The times I've visited the Carribean have been in July. It was hot, yes. And humid. But you learn to adapt by the second day. (You also never get too far from a body of water to jump into!) I've found the rates seem to go something like this:

August/September - November: cheapest

May/June: second cheapest

July/August (early August, depending on island): third cheapest

December through April: most expensive

As far as prices? Depends on the popularity of the place you visit, the type of hotel you want to stay in, and airfare. You live in the Carolinas, right? That should minimalize your airfare significantly. (I live on the West Coast) If you are willing to go with a 3 star hotel over a 4 or 5, that will also save you money. Also, check the exchange rates. For example, currently the exchange rate for the Virgin Islands is 1, meaning that every $1.00US equals $1.00 in the Virgin Islands. The Cayman Islands have an exchange rate of approx 2 - not very good, either. However, currently Jamaican exchange rates are around 97, meaning that every $1.00US = $97Jamaican Dollar. Very good exchange rate, but Jamaican business people do adjust their prices so you end up paying the equivalent to US prices. So beware. However, the higher the rate of exchange (such as the Dominican Republic) the more money you can spend while you are there.

Languages are not often a problem in the Carribean. Most tourists are from English speaking countries, so the the population speaks English for the most part. However, if you want more of an "American" feel there is always the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. They have their own individual character, but they are the more "Americanized" Carribean islands.

You might have some research ahead of you, but the more planning you do up front the more fun your trip will be! Also, I would recommend visiting travel sites such as Frommers and Fodors to talk to people who travel extensively to the Carribean - they really are the best source of information.

I wish you and your wife a fabulous trip!

Thank U

Thank you Sexy
That is absolutely what I was looking for in this thread.
Your experiences have been very informative. You should write for those travel companies.
We are definitely looking to get away and I am looking forward to (and I hope and wish my wife would) lose ourselves in the merrymaking.

Added question: Are there any places that gear towards sexual escapades? Hedonism considered, I'm not sure the wife would be nervy enough to stay there.
Or is Hedonism the only place for such possiblities?

Thank you, but there are others out there far more travelled than I shall ever hope to be!

You are kind of throwing an oxymoron out there and it is difficult to answer. On one hand you want a place that allows for sexual escapades, yet you state you don't feel your wife would be comfortable.

I've never been to either Hedonism II or Hedonism III, but I've known people who have been. From what I gather, it is pretty much a party down place with sexual overtones and a separate nude beach. If you prefer not to do the public nudity, then you don't have to - but expect a bare breats or ass now and again.

There are several member only, clothing optional resorts that have a strong basis in erotic experiences. Now, clothing option does not mean that every one walks around naked and fucks everything in sight! There are nudist resorts that simply respect the human body for its beauty and there is nothing sexual about it. You have to be a bit discerning.

Then there are member swing club resorts. These are basically resorts where you do have people walking around naked and fucking when/where they want. The following are a couple of links to these places that you can check out if you like.

Swing Club in Costa Rica
Desire Spa in Cancun
Blue Bay Club in Cancun

I know I said to avoid Cancun, but if you are looking for an exotic place to have sex, then you won't mind the tourist and drunken college students. ;)

I'm thinking if your wife might be a bit shy about Hedonism II or III, then a swing club resort might not be exactly what you are looking for. But who knows? Perhaps if she sees the web pages and/or brochures, she might go for it.

There are couples only resorts such as Sandals that exclude children. But the emphasis is more on romance and sports activities, rather than overt sexual activity. I'm sure there are couples who manage to sneak a "quickie" down by the beach, but it isn't condoned by the resort.

So, I think you have a little work cut out for you. How much/willing would either of you be in displaying your sexuality? Is your wife more willing to seek romance and make love while ocean breezes gently flow through the room? Or are you looking to have sex in a hot tub with an audience? Or do you simply want to watch others?

If you search on "Adult Resorts" or "Clothing Optional Resorts" you will be surprised at the number of places to investigate! Oh, and remember - buyer beware!! Make certain you choose a reputable resort and know what you are getting yourself into!

Another option to explore would be Vacation Condo/Rentals. There are places where you can rent a small cabin right on your own private beach.

Personally I enjoyed St Thomas (US Virgin Islands), Bahamas and Puerto Rico. But its a big big place, so explore your options.

Another interesting thing you can do easily enough, is to take a cruise out of Miami, and stay over in some port for a few days before cruising back to Miami. The pampering of a cruise for a day or two before and after spending some days in the sun is a nice romantic touch.

I had a fabulous time in Grenada last April. Nude sunbathing is technically illegal there, but I've heard it's been done. Twelve Degrees North is supposed to be a VERY good resort - you get your own maid/cook! Blue Horizons is said to be very nice, and it looked pretty when I saw it. (Our taxi picked up a few people besides us, and some of them went there.) I stayed at the Rex Grenadian which is very near the airport but it's no trouble because there are only a few flights per day! If you want the white sand beaches, though, stay at the Spice Island Beach Resort. It's right on Grand Anse. And if you go to the Brown Sugar restaurant, I'm begging you - please get me the pumpkin ravioli recipe! It's the best meal I have ever had. Seriously.

Oh, and I personally boycott Sandals because they don't allow same-sex couples to stay there. Just in case that kind of thing matters to you. (Not for your situation specifically, but in case you wanted to boycott them too.)

I loved the Carribean, it was awesome... got to blow tons of cash (was there TDY in the Army) so we really didn't care how much stuff cost. St. Thomas was by far our favorite, we spent our off time there, 18 Rangers in a tropical paradise with vague orders not to get in too much trouble. We planned our off time around spring break, only eight of us didn't get arrested, but damn was it fun.

Oh yeah... and watch out for pirates. hehehe, sorry couldn't resist. Can ya blame me?

You guys are great! Thank you for your replies.

Etoile I love your pics, b&w always very chic!

Sexy, thanks for the links. I think if we (my wife and I) get out of the small city. We (she; I have no problem doing this) could let loose ;) . She will enjoy watching other people/couples and I will enjoy being naturally on exhibit. :D

Great ideas everybody!
I have some time to do the research, and now some good advice.

If you have cash to burn the island to go to in the Caribbean is without a doubt Anguilla, it's very expensive to stay there. Anguilla is located off the coast of St Martin. Don't expect a lot to do there, there really isn't unless you want to sit on the beach and just relax, just like in those Corona commercials. It is so beutiful there and in numerous magazines its been rated has having the best beaches in the world. For places to stay, the two best are Cap Juluca www.capjuluca.com and CuisinArt Resort www.cuisinartresort.com

That would be my pick for an island to go to. Also St. Barts is a beautiful island.

I know this is kinda off-topic...but how do they get away with that?

I assume it's because they own the facility, and they can deny entrance to anyone they like. None of their resorts are in the U.S., so they're not subject to American laws. (They are in Jamaica, Antigua, the Bahamas, and St. Lucia.)

A google search for sandals resort gay discrimination has lots of good results, including these:
  1. Turned away at Sandals - About a lesbian couple who got all the way there without being questioned, and then when they tried to check in, got kicked out.
  2. A forum thread about Sandals discrimination - Includes the fact that the mayor of London wouldn't allow them to advertise on buses because they exclude gays.
  3. Microsoft's Expedia did the same thing in January 2000, for the same reason.
  4. But Sandals doesn't care - they're not changing their policy.
What's sad is that they recommend gay couples go to their "sister" resort, Beaches. But Beaches is a FAMILY resort, not a COUPLES resort. Some people want to go to Sandals so they can be together as a couple without children, and gay couples can't have that experience at Beaches.

Etoile,
Thanks so much for the info! I dislike all inclusive resorts of any type, so I don't really know the inclinations that each have. I guess I just assumed (and yes, we all know what that does!) that Sandals accepted all people who were couples. I mean, if they are going to be so judgemental as to prevent gay and lesbian couples from enjoying their resorts, then perhaps they should also exclude those people who aren't married to each other!

Getting off track here, but I'm glad you posted this information. Although I don't have any personal desire to go to a Sandals resort, I will be certain not to recommend their properties in the future until/unless they accept all people, no matter their sexual orientation.

Wow, Chele, thanks! To be honest, I don't know which of the all-inclusive chains are gay-friendly. Individual resorts probably are, but the ones like Sandals may not be. (The only other chain I can think of right now is Hedonism, and I don't know their policies on same-sex couples.)

Hedonism III in Jamaica was lots of fun, and you can do all of the adult things you want to.

Check out Club Orient on St Martin. This might be a little more reserved place for your wife. I think you would both enjoy it and find it has a lot to offer.

I enjoyed Cancun... then again, I am a college student. One sexual experience not to be missed is sex in the ocean. It feels so cool to be weightless. Also watch for other couples haveing sex in the ocean... they may be interested in more than a little exhibitionism (or they may not - but its worth invesitgating).
