The biggest problem on these sites, IMHO, AFF in particular, is that the ratio of men to women is about 12 to 1. Good if you're a woman, not so good if you're a guy.

We've tried a few sites and found most to be useless for meaningful contact.
Several made wild promises and bombarded us with e-mails claiming to have found us a matching couple or person locally. Just pay the entry fees and away you go we were told, so we did, and lo and behold the contacts they'd found us either lived a continent or two away, or had mysteriously vanished from the member list as soon as we'd paid up.
Much time and patience is needed and don't bother to part with cash, it does nothing to improve your chances.
We've had more luck on sites like this and other chat boards than on purpose made dating sites.
This of course applies to us in UK, don't know about US.
We don't often play with strangers anyway, we have a lovely bunch of regulars locally, but occasionally we feel the need to do something really wild with people we don't have to meet up with again if we don't want to.

I am a free member on www.sexyads.net and find it's really good. Sure there are restrictions but you can work within those boundaries quite comfortably.
