how long does it take for new submission stories to be passed through

Depends on the length of the story, 750-5000 word stories are obviously the fastest since well they are not all that long. When you get into serious word number stories it can take longer, 2 weeks is known to happen.
Now since your a newbie, at least I think you are I'm not up to checking if you are or not, you can add in an extra day or two since they don't know you and go over it a little closer than they would for someone who has many stories.
Course if your really impatient to get the story posted you will first send $50 to all of the forum members, then you shall have to slaughter a live chicken, KFC doesn't count, shaking the dead bleeding corpse over your computer, making sure to get the blood into your computer. Well I'm not sure if it has to be in the computer or just on, snoopy suggested it needs to be in so just to be safe make sure you get some in. The magic words must be uttered in completeness no more or less times than 4, after saying the magic words you must utter the magicer words of klatu verata nicto. Now be careful with these magicer words, if you missutter a single syllable an army of darkness will arise and lay claim to the magic book... Sorry wrong movie. Anyway after having uttered the magic words, and the magicer words, you must sit on your hands for a period of between 3 and 7 days.
