Adding Illustrations

I have looked, but I have not found any rules or suggestions about adding illustrations to stories. I am not talking about pictures of people (naked or otherwise) but illustrations of maps that would give context to the current set of stories I am writing.

As they are set in an imaginary land, I was thinking that a map or two might be worth a thousand words to set the context.

If it is not possible then I will just have to do without, but if there was an acceptable way to do it, I think it might enhance the reader's experience.

It hasn't been done often in the past, but a special request has allowed some stories to have images in them outside the illustrated category.

The thing is, the image size is quite limited. For any sort of fantasy map, the resolution will probably be too small to serve any useful purpose.

You're probably better off uploading the image to your own website/etc., liking to it from your bio, and then mentioning in an author's note that more information about the world/etc. can be found in your bio. You can't directly link to or mention any non-Literotica page in the story itself.

You need to use the story side tools to edit your bio, because the forum one was broken by some upgrades, and is currently disabled until they can find a fix.

The only category is Illustrated Stories which is a bit of a backwater. Nice idea but very low reader base. Focus on words will get better results, I think.

For a little reference, here's one of my maps, sized down to the maximum width dimension. I'm not even sure it's within limits of the byte size.

You'll have to do some serious text highlighting and likely cover up some things you don't want to in order for the text on the map to be at all readable with such a small maximum width.

Low reader base? LOL, not exactly. If you have an illustrator or 3d modeler, so you can provide hardcore images, it's right up there in the top tier of viewership.

Granted, what we're talking about here would be ignored/trashed in the category, but it's hardly low readership when providing what the readers expect.

EB, recheck your data. RejectReality is 100% right. These stories can do fabulously well in terms of readers. Write an incest story with good pictures and submit it in Illustrated and you can do really well. Silkstockingslover has done really well with this formula.

One of the advantages of this category is that so few stories are published in it that if you do, your story will remain on the new story hub page for a long, long time, which exposes it to more readers.

Thanks everybody. I guess for now, I will just have to paint pictures with words.

* sigh *

Yep, I stand corrected. An aged perception then, carried over from when I first arrived on Lit and checked out the Illustrateds - it seemed to be a backwater, with a handful of entertaining writer/illustrators.

Carry on without me ;).

No, we're not going to do that. We're going to bring you along but we'll make fun of you for being wrong. :p

One word, my good man. Penguins. Carry on.

Wait. In for a penny, in for a pound. Two words: your mom ;).
