Adding a Chyoo FAQ

In the New Stories list it seems the moderators have the ability to continually bump a story up to the front page by changing the editor. Is this correct?

If so, I was thinking adding a Chyoo FAQ (with lots of help from people here) as a new story that always appears on the front page.

Do you think it's a good idea that will work?

We'd have to keep changing the editor? What if we figured out a way to get it in the top ten? Id stay there forever. Last week I gave a 5.0 to a new story and it went straight to the top. That was the second time my vote did that for a new story (I was the first voter, by the way). I have a magic touch, you see. :p

The ratings system doesn't work properly so it might be difficult keep it in the Top 5.

My votes don't seem to register properly and count as a zero.

A FAQ that is a story sounds like a neat idea. Things would be a hell of a lot easier if we could change the front page. Is there any word on how possible this is?

Simply adding a link to these forums for 'discuss', and to the FAQ story for 'FAQ' would be a 10 second change.

Maybe more a guide than an FAQ.

I was thinking a brief intro about the concept of Chyoo followed by guides to:
1)Reading stories
2)Adding to an existing story
3)Starting your own story
4)Other tips

There can be more branches following those 4 sections.

I think it is a great idea since we can't seem to get the power to post a permanent thread here. Also since many people probably see only the Chyoo site that is a good place for it.

I think you should go ahead and lay it out and we can keep switching the editor as you suggest to keep it at the top of the new story list.

If you would like me to write part of it just let me know and i will be happy to help.

:D

We'll have to be sure that it includes all the stuff that doesn't work right, such as the ratings, ratingless comments, acceptance notes, etc.

I've started writing the FAQ for anyone who is interested.
http://www.chyoo.com:81/index.php/main.story.cover/3466

Hope it's OK. Let me know. I've tried to explain it very basically, almost step by step.

Jake, can you (or anyone else who wants to help) add the sections

2)Adding to an existing story
3)Starting your own story
4)Other tips

These should follow the front page.

adding to a story

Alright I added a section on how to add to a story. See if it is clear and represents what you were thinking.

From here I think I would add a section on POV, and how to use paragraphs to enhance readability.

Also a section on how to use the immersive feature.

Let me know if you have any other thoughts.

Have made you sub editor.

I think in the existing thread you should write something about the immersive text, a note about following Chyoo and writer guidelines, and not being able to add threads if the maximum number of options has already been used .

A detailed guidelines section following it would be good.

Okay, it's a top story right now. Nobody vote! Maybe it'll stay there.

Oh, you should explain that "Jane Doe" will be used when there is nothing in the name fields.

Hello. i wrote a German translation of your FAQ-File

First sorry for my English. It´s good enough for reading, but i must learn much more for good writing.
As a Writer for some NON-English Storys i was asked by other People about some of the CHYOO Rules that i myself dont know properly. Found this NOT-Link HELP was a Joke. I had helped as much as i Could but must say that i had made some Thinking-Errors maybe.
When I now founf The Chyoo Faq- File i translated it to German and posted it. Hope it will help my other German-writing Freinds and it will be continued.
Like explains for LINK THREAD, STORY MAP and so on. If I have Time i will make a Sequel by myself which i will send you here for re-formatting and adding if it is Helpfull.
The Idea is very good. Keep it on !

You should add a Hint which Story-Ideas are allowed and which are forbidden. I think this is most needed.

Any volunteers to write the guide for "Starting your own story/Being an editor"?

Hey, friends, does the minimum rating/threads restriction for permissible writers actually work? I'm writing the "Create Story" FAQ but I don't know about this part. If it doesn't work, then I'm just going to say so.

Minimum threads appears to work, but in a way I didn't understand.

Minimum threads=1 means that in order for a given thread to be open to receiving contributed follow-on threads, there must be already at least 1 follow-up thread already existing (presumably created by an editor). (Someone else correct me if I'm wrong). This means that other story contributors can't extend a story, only offer alternative choices. I'm not really sure how useful this option is.

Minimum karma seems to make no sense, since as far as I know, everyone has karma=0.

Not sure about "minimum rating".

Wow, looking good guys. Here are a few suggestions I'd like to see aded...

First, could we get the names of the moderators up on the first post? It might help newbies to have some familiar names to look too and it'd be good to identify who's in charge. Second maybe a reasons for rejection page because it seems to be a common question people ask around here.

Reasons for Rejection

1 - Spelling and grammar: Be sure to use spell check before submitting and if your grammar isn't the best, you can alway head to the message boards to find a friendly editor to look over your work. Proper spelling and grammar makes it easier for readers to enjoy your work, so it's important.

2 - Inacceptable content: Chyoo does not accept works that involve beastiality or underage sex.

Beastiality | People in chyoo stories can not have sexual relations with natural animals found in the world today, but this does not include fictional animals, creatures or people posing as animals. (I'm not sure what the stance is on people transformed into animals). Sexual relations is decided at the discretion of the moderators.

Underage sex | Sexual activity of a minor is strictly prohibited. Once again, the decision is at the discretion of the moderator.

3 - Lack of content: Be sure to write up a decent body of work for your first page. One paragraph is not enough to flesh out the premise of your story. A good thing to remember for the first post is to introduce your characters with maybe a few character traits to recognize them by and describe the setting so you know where you are.

Of course anything that I put in there could be changed.

Also, I don't know where exactly to put it, but it might be a good idea to point out about the timeout thing that Chyoo does when you're in the middle of writing of story on the actual site. It could go in a what doesn't work section of Chyoo I guess.

What doesn't work:

Timeout when writing a story on chyoo - use wordpad or some alternative before posting, be sure to save work.

Karma - never knew what it did anyways

Link to Message board - https://forum.literotica.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18

Ratings - Not an accurate gauge of story quality

Editor / Writer Notes - When writing in the notes section, located below the body of work entry block, the notes will not be seen by the editor or writer. They can be found (on the bottom of the page) when clicking on the add new thread of that particular post.

There's more problems, I'm sure.

Amalgam, I've promoted you to trusted status so you can add further threads without needing my approval.

You might need a following thread about rights and responsibilities of being an editor.

What would people like to see in the "Other Tips and Tricks" section? Any volunteers to write it once we have a list?

How do you plan to discuss {FIRST_NAME} and {LAST_NAME} variables, if you have the FAQ set to prompt for name?

Good question! I think either leave spaces in the middle and tell the reader to close the gaps, or type in small letters and tell the reader to use block capitals.

Other tips & tricks -

Private Messages within CHYOO don't work properly

Advanced search techniques?

The whole case-sensative username login issue.

How to link threads.

Feedback - how to give, how to recieve.

Stories you aren't creator for don't show up in 'threads to approve'

Story count/Karma/etc on the 'My Home' are non-functional.

Oh, and maybe someone can answer the question I have sometimes....

I haven't added a thread, nor have I recieved an addition, but it shows my story has been modified. Is this due to feedback? I didn't get any written comments, so I assume someone just gave it a # or something?
