For 50 years I never got what an addictive personality is. I mean, there are official definitions but they explain nothing about the addiction process. But its all very simple; so pay attention.

For all intents and purposes life is an addiction; once we've had a taste of life we wanna stay involved with it. But along the way, like heroin and alcohol and pie and cigarettes it ruins and kills us.

I'd eat a mile of Kim Kardashians shit just to smell her nasty asshole one time. I wouldn't collect a mile of 1000 dollar bills to look at Chelsea Clintons ass. I'm naturally immune to Chelsea.

Addiction requires a hamartic lethality.

ha·mar·ti·a

/ˌhämärˈtēə/

noun

noun: hamartia; plural noun: hamartias

a fatal flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero or heroine.

I remember reading somewhere that people who are more prone to boredom are much more likely to become addicted to some sort of substance or activity. I have no idea how the article measured "boredom."

Also, it is true that healthy activities are addictive in the very same way that unhealthy activities are. Exercise, love, companionship, and religious beliefs release the exact same neurotransmitters that drugs do. Dopamine and endorphines are the main reward center hormones which is what cocaine, heroin, and other similar drugs target. So, if people don't get their fix from healthy activities then they may be more prone to recreational drugs.

A great example is a horrible break up. The feelings you have are exactly the same as the withdrawal symptoms of cocaine. And a heroin addict once said something that is so true - "When you take the first hit of heroin, it becomes the love of your life."
