Addicted to porn as a defense?

A man was fired from his job for going to an adult chat room while at work. He's sued his former employer for $5 million claiming that he's addicted to sex and the internet, and therefore is protected by disability.

We've created a society full of victims.

People will try to sue for anything, I swear. I can't imagine the courts here will go for it though. Then again, they allowed that woman to sue McDonalds so nothing shocks me anymore.

 Please, Wildcard! Don't blame society or folk with real disabilities for the actions of an asshole--that excuses the asshole and puts the blame where it doesn't belong. There have always been people like this who will try ANYTHING to excuse their own actions and get $$. They've always done it and they always will. And the laws of society, right or not, have nothing to do with whether they will do it. The only thing the laws do is to decide them on what they can and can't use to try and get what they want.

Does that mean that I can start drinking at my desk? I'm an alcoholic, totally.

It doesn't surprise me at all... Hopefully the jerk will get laughed out of court with nothing to show for his 'adiction' other than a red face and court costs (against him)... It is I presume a private court case not a public prosecution of his ex-employers...

Had he been here in the Uk however, his case would be almost certainly guaranteed successful... All he'd need to do is shout 'Human rights act'... According to said legislation spewed out of Europe and accepted by Blair's government, everyone has the right to do anything they please and claim it's their right to do so... And that includes criminals... We had a recent case where a load of convicts were paid 30,000 quid each out of public funds because they were deprived of illegal drugs while in prison... As they were convicted filthy stealing useless drug adicts, it was their human right to have free access to substances to fuel their drug habit while in prison...

You guys and gals in the US might think some of your latest laws, especially the Patriot act, are silly... you aint seen anything like the idiocy over here...

There are many idiotic 'human rights' cases in the UK...but this one is a tad distorted. This from the BBC

As can be seen, they were receiving treatment for addiction prior to going to prison. The new treatment in Prison was something they were not in agreement with.

That's hardly the same as being deprived of illegal drugs.
