President Trump's controversial choice to be the top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C., Ed Martin, faces an uncertain future, as a Senate Democrat plans to put an indefinite hold on his nomination.

Martin, a "Stop the Steal" advocate and former defense attorney who represented U.S. Capitol riot defendants, is Mr. Trump's nominee to be U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, and Sen. Adam Schiff, a first-term Democrat from California, plans to hold his nomination amid a growing number of controversial statements and decisions by Martin.

The position is among the highest-profile and most powerful federal prosecutor positions in the U.S. Martin, who refers to himself as "Ed the Eagle," has been serving as acting U.S. attorney for D.C. since Inauguration Day.

Senators have the power to invoke a hold on a presidential nominee, a maneuver that can slow or stall consideration of a nominee for days or weeks. Precious Senate floor time is often needed to overcome holds on presidential nominees.

"For the past nine weeks, Ed Martin has consistently undermined the independence and abused the power of the US Attorney's office in DC, openly threatening and intimidating political opponents, dismissing charges against his own clients, firing public servants for their roles in legitimate investigations and using his office as a cudgel to chill dissent and free speech," Schiff said in a statement to CBS News.

Former staff in the U.S. Attorney's Office in D.C. have criticized Martin for dismissing prosecutors who handled cases involving U.S. Capitol insurrectionists. Martin has praised Elon Musk and Mr. Trump on his social media account in the two months since taking over as top prosecutor.

Martin posted in a letter on X that he would go after those who have threatened Musk and Department of Government Efficiency employees, pursuing them "to the end of the earth to hold them accountable."

He has been posting on social media about crime in Washington, D.C., using the hashtag #MarchBadness. In one post last month, Martin wrote, "Hey, thugs with guns, you hear that? Yup, we comin.'"

In another social media post earlier this year, Martin wrote that his predecessor was a "Biden prosecutor" who "upped political prosecutions, he steered resources to a now-debunked legal theory that targeted American citizens, and gun prosecutions went down. Literally. Let me be clear: he used our $ to chase political hoaxes while the people of DC were terrorized by thugs with guns."

Republican United States Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, a devout Trump supporter, publicly buried the confirmation chances of acting Assistant US Attorney for the District of Columbia Ed Martin. Tillis informed Trump by email, copying the media, that under no circumstances could he vote for the confirmation of Ed Martin as permanent US Attorney for DC.

The public reason he gave was because Martin was an active looter in the January 6th Coup attempt, who recently opened an investigation into Department of Justice investigators who were charged with identifying coup attempt participants.

You may recall Martin was the dingleberry who has racked up an impressive string of defeats in his 100 days on the job:
  • Threatened to "investigate" AOC for public commentary she made (which instantly made him a lifelong friend in the misogynist RightGunt) AOC basically said "Bring it on, fat boy". He wilted.
  • Demanded his office have oversight of curriculum and hiring at Georgetown University School of Law (they laughed at him publicly and the law school said they'd use his demand letter as a case study in federal overreach for beginning law students)
  • Demanded federal editorial review of articles published in the New England Journal of Medicine, given their history of hostility toward "alternate therapies" such as Ivermectin (NEJM said "whut da fuque?")
  • Most recently, demanded his office have final editorial control over Wikipedia, who repeatedly favored facts over opinions.
Buh bye, Eddie!

With a new Pope selected, the Trump administration is using this to cover up some "bad optics"

Trump Withdraws U.S. Attorney Nominee, Whose Extremism Tested Limits for G.O.P. Senators

The means of Ed Martin’s ascent as the leading prosecutor for the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington was his path out of power.

Evidently Senator Thom Tillis' public statement about not voting for "Mr. Demand Letter" Ed Martin opened the floodgates. Tillis vote against Martin in committee left his confirmation tied 11-11, which meant a full Senate "on the record" vote to confirm a white nationalist extremist. Worried Republican senators called Trump's presidential hatchet-woman Susie Wiles to tell her Martin was radioactive to their chances at re-election in 2026 if allowed on the floor, get him OUTTA HERE!

BUH BYE ED MARTIN!

Added Bonus: Because Trump dithered so long, he now has until May 20th to have a US Attorney for District of Columbia CONFIRMED. If he fails to do this, the senior judge for the District of Columbia may name a US Attorney. Guess who the senior judge would be? Trump's nemesis Judge James E. BOASBERG!

Boasberg is the judge who the RWCJ is demanding to be "impeached" for making Trump big mad.

Martin was on Elon's Fascist Playground early this morning urging Senators to "fight fight fight".
The Senators obviously declined to do so.

Trump says he'll pull the nomination of Ed Martin for DC US Attorney after concerns of partisanship

Trump abandoned his pick to lead the nation's largest U.S. Attorney's office two days after a key Republican senator said he could not support Martin for the job due to his defense of rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“We have somebody else that will be great,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office

North Carolina Republican Sen. Thom Tillis said Tuesday that he wouldn’t support Martin’s nomination. Tillis, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said his opposition stemmed from Martin’s defense of rioters who breached the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Other Republicans seemed likely to oppose Martin’s nomination as well.

In response to a committee questionnaire, Martin initially failed to disclose that he made over 150 appearances on the Russian government-funded RT and Sputnik networks before he took office. He later included them in a follow-up letter.

Dozens of former prosecutors from the office publicly opposed Martin’s nomination. In a letter to the committee, more than 100 office veterans described him as “an affront to the singular pursuit of justice for which this Office has stood for more than two centuries.”
