ACHTUNG! p_p_man

This sucks

Four semesters of college German and I still can't spell it. Hell I can't spell in English either so no big deal.

But it sucks in a thread like this where I have the perfect come back, but I can't give it, because I can't spell in German.

Your guess is as good as mine...

Wadda I do now?

Anyway I'm watching the biography of McArthur on TV. Without him all Americans would be speaking Japanese...

And the English? Ah, the English, would be something big in a Tourism...

:)

Psst p_p_man, he said he is coming for it. Do you have it? I asked him what he is coming for so that you are forewarned but I think it is your beer he may be after.:D
Run run I say man. Run. :p

Thanks....

I'm outta here...

**flees faster than a speeding bullet from the thread, desparately balancing 3 six-packs, 4 large packets of potato crisps and my favourite Teddy Bear (Elvis)**

Uhhhm - excuse me but ....

may I just throw in my 2 cents? (yes!! I can toss in 2 cents now as from yesterday I do really have cents in my wallet *g*)

SINthysist: Wir Kommen Fur Sie!
besides the fact that the capitalization is wrong (this phrase should be: Wir kommen für Sie!) it would mean: We are coming for you! which as a phrase like that doesn't exist in German, so it would "translate" into "We are cuming for you!" (you catch my drift here?)

debbiexxx: Für was ist es Sie kommt?
Now we are at least getting the spelling right (pointing to the ü in für) but *g* didn't you just know there was a but coming? ... this phrase implies: What is it she is coming for? using the singular, third person "she" instead of the initial plural, first person "we". Just to complete this bit ... the gramatically correct phrase should be "Was ist es wofür sie kommt?"

This is cute :) Elvis is the man. So Elvis the teddybear commands (or sorts as in putting in a specific order? ;)) with p_p_man a close second.
OK, of course you would have made yourself understood, no doubt about it. I assume anyway you meant to say: So Elvis, the teddybear and p_p_man order a fast second (beer, based on and relating to the previous posts indicating that "they" were coming for his beer)

OK - this was my pain-in-the-ass contribution for 2002 *G* - but I just couldn't resist... sorry everyone, no offense intended. I just wanted to point out that many of us here at Lit are having that kind of problem with each and every post we make in English (and altavista or babblefish don't solve those problems very well at times)

We are just trying to familiarize ourselves and brush up our skills for the new Euro-Language now that they have a new Euro currency.

Don't worry schoolteacher, I mangle at least 4 languages on a day to day basis, jump on in. Some one smarter will always be around to "gently" correct you.

Besides, it's just FUN!

!

*lol* HELP ! Let me familiarize with all those shiny new coins and notes first (that to me still look like play-money) before we need to think about a Euro-Language

Saugen Sie mich?

Note that p_p_ ran. That makes him an undisciplined Euro!

I lean out the Huey and draw a bead on his backside...

You're gonna get close enough to draw on it ?.

Yuks!.

LOL

:D

I hear it has little red rings where people have been touching it with a ten-foot pole...

:p

Copied from Starfish Post:

"Flößen Sie nicht diese Furcht in PPman ein, weil er beginnen kann, einen Aluminiumsturzhelm zu tragen, um Sinnesverwerfende Meldungen von Ihnen jetzt abzulenken.

Saugen Sie mich?"

Translated as (courtesy of AltaVista)

"You would not flow this fear into PPman, because it can begin to carry an aluminum crash helmet in order sense-rejecting messages from you to divert now.

Do you suck me?"

I'm going to stick to French, it sounds better:

"Votre endroit ou mine. Je suis facile. Pas bon marché mais facile!"

:D :D :p

Haven't spoken any foreign language for a few years now. Not since I had to ask a German friend of mine why he found it so funny when I spoke German to him.

All those years of education wasted. Perhaps I should go to Berlin and split sides with my 'hilarious' accent.

Happy New Year Hecate! :) No offense at all! Thanks to April's link to the Alta vista translator I was able to write my comments. :D Yes I cheated!

Oh no. Two weeks with the folks and I'm getting amusement from puns.

Actually I have started to have more use for my German and French reading skills. I've taken to Return to Castle Wolfenstein like a duck to orange sauce, and online, the players try to communicate in their native tongues.

I must commend the Germans btw. On a school trip to the area around Koblenz we were supposed to find German people to practice on. After our first sentence (usually asking for some item of food) the shopowners would invariably respond in good English.

It didn't help my German, but it shows a good standard for the German people's language skills.

By comparison, all of the French people I have ever met have avoided speaking a word of English. Two even tried to chat up my date when I was standing next to her. Cheek!

What?

Do you mean your school took you abroad to learn the language?

We were out there getting an education;)
