Accused of "Cheating"?!

Well, after getting some really delightful feedback for my first - and so far, only - story, "A Girl Called Mickey", (http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=48006), submitted in June, I got a nasty surprise today. I received some anonymous feedback saying that the writer had been "watching my voting pattern" and its effect on the top of the category, and believed that I was "cheating" and that he/she could prove it. I was told to "have some self-respect" and let my story stand by itself. As you might imagine, I'm pretty pissed.

Does anyone know what this person was talking about? The story was submitted ages ago, so isn't eligible for any contests, AFAIK. As for my "voting pattern", I leave high feedback on the stories I really like, otherwise I just don't bother. I'd have thought that giving 5's to hot stories and ignoring the rest would push my story *down* the category, not - as this individual seems to think - up. Am I doing something that could be considered cheating, or have I attracted a lone loon with an axe to grind?

After the uniformly warm welcome I've had here with my first story, the accusation really pisses me off. I've temporarily disabled anonymous feedback so that if this guy/girl wants to hassle me more, he/she will have to sign their name to it, but I hate things like this because it doesn't take much to make fibs (or, to be fair, mistakes) like this stick. Honesty is a big button of mine, and things like this push it big time.

Anyway, if my accuser is reading this, bring it on, buddy. I've nothing to hide or be ashamed of. Put up or shut up. To everyone else who's read my stuff and commented, thanks for the warm feedback. I will definitely be writing more stuff as the er...spirit moves me :)

That bites.

You're not the first this has happened to. Some people just don't understand why others get votes. It's also possible that you've picked up a fan who wants to help. You have have Laurel look at specific stories of yours for cheating, but that's about all you can do about it except pity the moron who can only make him/herself feel better by bitchslapping at other people.

When you put your work up for public consumption there will always be someone who wants to piddle in you wheaties simply because they don't like you, your work, or you position in regards to theirs. It's human nature to envy and human heart to move past it.

It's hard to do, but the best thing in this case--take it from an inveterate hateful feedback recipient--is to just let it go. You can't actually do anything about it and hanging on to it will just make you feel worse. In which case the dingbat has accomplished his or her goal.

Cheers, KM. It's a pain this sort of thing happens, but I'm somewhat relieved it's nothing new. I guess the reason it got to me so much was that my experience here has been so completely positive that the accusation was a particularly jarring note. Well, stuff it, I'm not letting this monkey bug me anymore.

Thanks for the good advice!

Hello Dunstable,

Yes, negative feedback like that is totally unwarranted, and I guess it's cold comfort to know your not the only one to receive it.

Well keep in mind people give feedback like that for all kinds of reasons. Jealously would be the motivation here I would think.

I'm not sure what your story is rated at rigt now, but I can tell you I just read it, and I thought it was H.O.T. hot!

Like you, I don't bother to rate a story unless it's one I really enjoy. I didn't hesitate to vote on yours. ;)

Have a great day,

Alex (female)

Wow.
That was an incredibly hot story.
The idea of anal sex has never turned me on much....
until now, that is.

Keep up the good work!

I haven't voted on any stories yet mainly because I haven't read any, but when I vote at other voting sites for pictures, that's exactly how I do it too. And when I start to read and vote on stories, I'll probably follow the same pattern, unless the author does something really annoying (I don't mean content; I mean stylistic devices--the only author I can think of offhand that bugged the hell out of me stylistically was John Norman, the author of the sci-fi kinky sex series, Gor. As much as I liked his sexy content, that guy made me want to climb the walls with those boring, repetitious, simple-minded philosophy speechs that he had his characters thinking or speaking on every other page).

So I guess we (people who prefer to vote this way) are all just a bunch of big cheaters, eh? :)
